SMC Pentax-F 1.7X AF Adapter

I no longer use this rare and unusual adapter, so due to it's rarity I'm offering it for sale to someone who is looking to give one a good home.

Virtually unused in Excellent condition, almost Mint apart from some very tiny marks (almost invisible) on the bayonet where it has been attached to camera and lens. The bayonet is in excellent condition. Even the pass sticker is intact and mint.

The internally focusing elements work perfectly.

Acts as a TC and also converts Pentax KA and K manual lenses to autofocus. Retains all exposure modes supported by the attached lens.

Can be used with Autofocus lenses, in which case the Adapter takes over the focus duties.

Complete with case and both original end caps. No box.

Focal length is not transmitted and has to be entered manually after multiplying by 1.7x.

Algernon, does the TC work with the K1 and A lenses?

I've only got a K-5, but it's a FF Adapter and I used to use it with a Pentax-A*300mm f/4 on different bodies without any problems. The ebay price of these has shot up in Japan etc. (£300 - £380) so I would assume that's because of people wanting them for a K-1.

I've also used it with the DA*300mm f/4 on a K-5 without any problems. I've now got the HD DA 1.4X that I use instead. The 300mm needs stopping down to f/5.6 with that to get the best results. The 1.7x was good at f/4. There's very little difference in performance with all the top TC's they are very close to the maximum possible resolution. See .....

You sometimes have to set the focus manually in the vicinity of the subject for best results.

I've been asked by PM to post some sample pics.

These two OOC JPG 100% crops were taken by screen grabs of a comparison between the 1.4x HD TC and the 1.7x Adapter.

DA*300mm f/4 WIDE OPEN lens on K-5 100ISO Flash at f/5.6 and f/6.3. No PP applied.

The 1.7x Adapter transmits the aperture correctly to the camera. The image is about 20% bigger. The 300mm needs manually focusing to approx. the correct position before the shot.

With setups of 420mm and 510mm it's difficult to get shots that are in focus and without shake. From these results, especially taking into account the extra focal length (510mm) provided by the 1.7x I would say that it's slightly sharper than the 1.4x HD. Perhaps I should keep it

EDIT: Sorry the forum software has reduced these from 1024 pixels wide. They aren't as good as the originals.

Not a lot of people know this.........

If you use this Adapter with a 50mm f/1.7 or f/1.4 MF lens you have a very good 85mm f/2.8 AF Portrait lens How much do they cost?

The AF with a 50mm is quite fast and with the lens set to INF it covers the full range without needing to manual focus at all.

The loss is so little that you can't see it. That's true of most Top TC's. It's measurable in a lab, but probably less than 5%

I could use the case off this so if anyone wants it without the case I'll knock £10 off.
