For anyone looking for a fast 70-200 mm zoom that won't bust your bank balance, Ffordes have a half decent Sigma 70-200 @ £199.00. It's the original version hence the price but it may be of interest to someone. https://www.ffordes.com/p/SH-55-036255/sigmapentax-af/70-200mm-f28-apo-ex-pentax...

They also have a 24-70 mm f2.8 @ £159.00 This too is the older version or I may have had a punt at it myself. https://www.ffordes.com/p/SH-55-036254/sigmapentax-af/24-70mm-f28-ex-dg-pentax-a...

That's still a good price even though it's the oldest of the Sigma 70-200/2.8s. I have the same one in worse condition and paid more than that for it.

If my copy's anything to go by, here are the downsides of this version:

1. Focus wide open is a little hit-and-miss on my K-3. By that I mean that focus can be slightly off where it's supposed to be. Shooting at f/4 reduces this problem quite a bit, or check focus immediately after (which I always do anyway, regardless of lens and aperture).

2. The coatings can give some scenes a yellowish cast which can be difficult to get rid of in post, at least for me. In most situations (95%) it doesn't do this though.

Still, with those caveats it's still a lot of lens for the price.

If anyone wants to have a peek at what it can do, my Flickr album is here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jonathandmacdonald/albums/72157694277712051

Can't argue with the quality of those photo's Jonathan. If I didn't already own a lovely Tamron 70-200, I would almost certainly have snapped this one up at the price. No lens is perfect but this is certainly a very affordable way to a fast telephoto, even if it is showing its age a bit. Some of my lovliest lenses are vintage. One just has to get used to any quirks they may have and compensate for them.

And talking of vintage lenses, has anyone come across Simon's utak Youtube channel? This video for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRJXbL6dlmU brings a whole new perspective to using vintage glass, especially Takumars. Watch it and enjoy it!

Bought my copy of that Sigma from Mifsuds for £400 in around 2008 - so they appear to hold their prices pretty well (that said, Ffordes' prices are often relatively high when compared with the "current market" offerings) and it still works pretty well.
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)
