Sigma 150-500 on Pentax k70

Has anyone had trouble using the K70 with a Sigma 150-500 lens?

I tried my Sigma 150-500 HSM on a K70 and nothing happened, even when I turned off the camera the display stayed on until I removed the battery or removed the lens!
Nothing on the camera worked with this lens attached.
Can anyone help please?
Regards,
Michael

Does it need a sigma lens firmware update?

My Sigma 150-500 does the same on the K1. It worked fine on the K5II and also works on my new K3. So I reckon it must need an update to work on the very latest bodies.

Just tried my Siggy 150-500 on the K1 following the alert here. It all works just fine.

I have a 150-500 which I use on K5, with no problems.......

I wasn't aware the software was up-dateable.

How would this update be done?

Roger.

The lens works fine on my K5, I would have thought it would work ok on a newer body ?
How does one update a lens??

Michael

With one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sigma-USB-Dock-UD-01-PA-for-Pentax-Fit-Lenses-/3618618...
As to whether updates are available for the lens I cannot make sense of the Sigma website to find out, it partly runs on flash and I have that disabled (why on earth these days when I thought it was obsolete.) Maybe someone knows!

I think the USB dock only works with the new generation Sigma lenses, so not the 150-500mm

I believe you have to send them to pentax repairer (Johnsons).

I wondered that too but the Sigma website was proving less than helpful. Perhaps others can do better with it. Its strange that some of these seem to work OK and others do not.
As to the dock, you may well be right. As to getting them fixed I don't thinks its Johnsons as they're not Pentax lenses, but back to Sigma themselves. Maybe get the mount replaced at the same time? Mine's all OK so I'll leave it as it is.

Sounds like you guys with issues now need to talk to Sigma Imaging UK in Welwyn and see what they say.
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

Im having a problem with the 150-500 on a k3. Worked fine on the k5, but it wont lock focus on the k3. Just keeps hunting and when it does "lock", its nowhere near in focus.
I contacted sigma, they said what the fault was likely to be, but i cant remember the exact term they used. Its possibly a band 7 repair, £145.99, though that would be a worst case scenario.
They also said they would update the firmware as a matter of course.
I found them very helpful.
Just need to send it off now......

I agree that Sigma in the UK are generally very helpful and sometimes don't charge the full Band charge - repaired my very old 100-300 F4 a couple of years ago for about 1/2 of the full one when a focus-related PCB failed (they got the parts from Japan - which surprised them as well as me!). You really do need to talk to them - just phone them up and discuss the problem!

BTW: both that lens and the 100-500 HSM OS worked slightly differently on the K-5 and K-3 with different back/front focus corrections being needed. After they repaired the 100-300, I took both bodies with me when I collected it personally and the Service Supervisor checked the lens on both of them and concluded that the K-3 needed servicing - and he was correct (and Johnson's were a lot less helpful and more costly than Sigma when they did that work!).
