If you removed the base plate would the cover come with it? It might make it easier to work on releasing it.

I have a seized Spotmatic battery cover (I think there's a leaked battery in there), in the case of the Spotmatic, the whole battery enclosure, including the cover is part of the baseplate. I've tried coke & WD40 (but have given the boiling oil trick a miss!). I have a spare baseplate which would fix the issue if I had another battery cover (but they're ££ on eBay). My next plan is to try and freeze just the cover - hoping it will contract and 'crack' any battery gunge in there - quite how I can do that is a different question.

My MX battery cover has two holes in the coin slot about 1cm apart (similar to those on the wind lever hub) - maybe there's a tool allowing more leverage than a coin would allow (the current 5p is my preferred implement)?

Best off just buying a spotmatic for parts than just the battery cover. Will probably cost about the same. Keep the rest of it for parts or just list it again for parts....

Meant to say I've got an mx for parts, so if you need anything just let me know

Think I've got a complete base plate and battery cover

Emphasis on think.

Will check when I've got a second

I think I read somewhere that soaking in vinegar can un-stick battery covers glued in place by leaked battery gunk.

I have found that a 1p coin is better than a 5p coin as it has sharper edges that give more grip.
Best regards, John

I've got a Danish krone that's slightly bigger than a 5p, so easier to grip and if my a level physics is up to scratch, more torque too!

I prefer the thickness of the 5p, less likely to slip I feel.

The MX service manual is available here link - looks very complicated but the exploded diagram shows the baseplate/battery compartment quite well.
