Sandwood Bay

Hi all... every year I try to put a bit of time aside and do a trip for Pentax as part of the Ambassador thing I do for them. In previous years I've been to the Westfjords in Iceland with Matt Emmett, and last year on my own to Barra and Vatersay in the Outer Hebrides. This year, towards the end of February, I decided to head back to the far north west of Scotland, in a 2 part trip firstly to Sandwood Bay in the far north west of Scotland, and then on to Luskentyre on the west coast of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. I've put some photographs together of Luskentyre which I'll post later, but for now, here are some from Sandwood Bay.

Sandwood Bay is the most northerly accessible beach on the west coast of mainland Scotland, the last big bit of sand before Cape Wrath. I last visited about 9 years ago on a trecking trip, and had been desperate to get back with my camera ever since. 4 1/2 miles from the nearest road, it's a bit of a walk to get to, and though the secret has got out a bit in the last few years (it has a proper car park now and the path to it has been improved in places etc., thanks to the tippy top work of the John Muir Trust), it remains a pretty wild and remote place given it's location. I wildcamped in the dunes in my tent, and was lucky enough to have the whole place pretty much to myself for three pretty magical days.

I'll post some photos of Luskentyre later, and also some more abstract/ICM shots of both places, but for now, here are some landscapes. All Pentax K1 II, DFA 15-30, DFA 24-70, PLM 55-300.

A beautiful series of photo's of a clearly magical place. You never fail to impress!

Thanks for sharing both the beauty and knowledge of the location. Looking forward to seeing more from this trip.

Stunning landscape photography!

You're an excellent ambassador for Pentax but it's the singer not the song.

Cracking set! Only one thing wrong with these, you didn't invite me along, you old misery.
I'll have another look through and ponder some.

Wonderful location, evocative images. I particularly like the way you have produced some stunning shots under grey skies.

Looking forward to the Luskentyre set.

Jawdropping, truly!

May I ask about the filters you used: i'm assuming a strong ND for the long shots. Did you also use graduated ND filters?
Thank you!

Cracking set, always love it when you post a new set, not really any need to pick faves from these as all are wonderful anyway, but I'll pick a few that do it for me,
No 4 is hands down, my pick of the set, fantastic image, after that its, 17, 7, 9, 18 and 5,
Are 4 5, 7 and 15 on the same stretch of beach just at varying distances and view points ?
Cant wait for the next set 👍👍👍
I know what i like, If not always why.

Just a Wow from me

The soft, pastel colours in 10 and 16 make them stand out a tad for me - but they are all superb images

Wonderful images. I particularly enjoy number 7 for the amazing foreground rocks.
