Hello my European Pentax user friends.

Rumor here in the USA is of Pentax introducing a new DSLR this year, the K5, a more inexpensive version of the K7.

Any news about the above in your part of the world ?

I'm ready to upgrade my beloved K100D Super to a used K20D, but the rumor of a new but less expensive version of the K7 has me wondering.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I haven't heard anything of a K5 but then I am not a great chaser of rumours.

Best wishes, Kris.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

I rather like the following quote:

Prediction is very difficult, especially about the future.

There were similar K5 rumours in Sweden a few months back, but thats all they were. Just rumours.

There's another rumour floating about that a camera with higher specs than the K 7 will be at Photokina 2010.

Rumours abound!

It was muted that the K7 may appear with the 12 meg sensor out of the K-x, as a mid range model.

We can only wait and see...

That doesn't sound very useful - what's the market? As a Kx owner I'm waiting for a K7 replacement before stepping-up, and a K7 owner would be better just buying a Kx body for the high-iso (and getting a second body to go with their lens collection).

Maybe they are considering the people with older bodies... or they are trying to "do a Sony" and confuse everyone with a gadzillion models you can hardly tell apart even with the aid of a feature comparison chart...
Still shooting in the dark (literally and metaphorically)...

I'm also happy with the two camera line up although something like the K200D might appeal to some that want something as easy to use as the K-X but want the weather-sealing and the focus conformation in the viewfinder, I think that might work at around the £500 to £600 mark.
I don't see a gap to fit something like the K20D though, it would be to close to the K-7 regarding the price.

As for the sensor, Samsung is busy with a backlit one, the same as the Sony EXMOR R so lets hope that's going to be a very good one. I would like to see them have the option to grab the best deal.

Given we have had the K-m and the K-x surely the next model will be the K-2? As long as it isn't the K-9.

I am waiting for the next model to come out so that I can pick up a second-hand K7...

Best wishes, Kris.

Actually the next one out will go away from the normal in having the camera controls laid out for Landscape mode and it will be a redesign to allow the primary axis to be in portrait mode. the model will have a suffix to designate it and be called the: K9-P !
