The Japanese company will radically review a production and manufacturing strategy centered on cameras for the retail market, including such brands as Pentax and GR. Options include withdrawing from this segment altogether.

We shall see what the future holds as it unfolds, but I won't be letting ifs and maybes affect what I want to use now. Even if it was all packed up there is more than enough stock in circulation to keep me going as long as needed.

Very interesting article, thanks for the link.
Best regards, John

Random thoughts from a random website? Do they carry any value? I personally never heard of them? To my knowledge Ricoh does not publicly release their quarterly investor's financial reports. I may be wrong, but the wording used in that particular article is rather poor. More of a 'lets cause a stir', then anything else.

Especially given the last paragraph...

I am somehow, strangely calm.

Some scaling back seems inevitable, given the industry and market conditions. Let's hope it's limited mainly to the likes of the WG and Q, since these are mostly challenged by the smartphone onslaught.

If it's just about reallocating factory capacity to more profitable product lines, then hopefully there's enough room left to keep the K mount stuff on track.

The first article is from Nikkei (the ones that lend their name to the Tokyo Stock Exchange Index) so I'd say thats a respected source, i.e its not "fake news".

Update: Ricoh issued a statement denying the report, saying that they are focusing on expanding "high-value-added models" (Google translated from Japanese).

That's exactly a great number of us will feel John. If never buy anything else I have sufficient to keep me going.

I always felt they were a bit late coming to the Full Frame market

I find using a 3 day delay filter on the internet sorts out the majority of the panics, fake news, etc.
