Rhossili Wreck - critique please

Hmm no offence to Jack but I much prefer your version. The increased contrast in Jack's might be worth trying, but there is no detail left in the hillside, the sky and parts of the timbers. Also his treatment has emphasized the halo around the large timber.

Well I'm here, I told Tim what I did and I still prefer the original anyway, I was just having a play with it, I thought the house was a distraction to the overall photo as there was no real detail in it and I would say the wood was the main subject but that's just my take on it, but I still like the original and would like to see the colour version if you have it Tim.

Jack.

Colour uncropped original as requested - rather flat and dull as you can see.

Spot the number of faults - crooked horizon even though on tripod vignetting caused by ND or polarising filter at 12mm

Interesting. I'd say you have cropped a bit too closely. Allowing a bit more sky, and rather more beach, makes for a better image in my view.

But I hasten to add that this is all very subjective, and in no way a criticism.

Thanks Tim, I had a play but your photo is as good as it gets,
Jack.

Thanks Jack.

BUT I've just flipped it horizontally, and it looks much stronger, with better lead in, and the house looks less out of place.

Since you posted the original I thought I'd have a go:

I think you've got quite a good sky for BW here, it might be worth considering keeping a bit more of it. All I did was play around with highlights and shadows, remove the house and a few larger white pebbles, and cloned out some of the halo and several sensor spots in the sky. Green filter BW conversion.

Jack.
