Found an alternative repairer. Posted it off today. Which will hopefully save a little time. 1st Aid repairs. https://1staidrepairs.co.uk/
They first checked they can obtain the part needed. Quoted £62 for the shutter, & £150 labour. Inc sensor clean. Camera service and return postage. So let's hope this is now problem solved..
PS. My retailer Wex outsource their repairs to a company by the name of Fixation. Based here in Manchester. I was chatting with their technician. And though he couldnt repair it. Gave me the name of a company DK audio. https://www.dkavs.co.uk/about-us/ Maybe one for the future.

That is good news. Please let us know the outcome. The price seems reasonable too.

Coincidentally I have also had a problem with the shutter on my K-1. First press of the release button does not fire the shutter, and it takes a few attempts to get it moving, the problem started to happen at around 20k actuations, well within the rated specification for the camera.
After a while a few more problems appeared, spots on the sensor that were not dust but appeared to be scratches and pit marks, presumably caused by the shutter hitting the sensor and damaging it. Separately had a problem with image dark and light 'banding' at higher ISO setting when used in dim lighting. The camera was originally purchase from 'SRSmicro' so back it went for their assessment at beginning of Nov 2021. They sent it to J Pye who said the sensor was damaged by cleaning (??) and it need a new shutter assembly and main circuit board. Total cost was quoted to be approx £900 ! It is now mid April 2022, just on 6 months from me sending the camera away and I have not heard a thing from J Pye and SRS do not seem to be getting any information from them either.

So as you can tell I am not at all impressed with J Pye or Pentax at the moment. 6 months with no information, contact or explanation just about sums up Pentax as far as I am concerned. I am seriously thinking of trading in all my Pentax items and swapping to another brand.

My K-1 also has the same shutter issue, but it is very intermittent and seems to be geting better, not worse. When I bought it 6 months ago it only had 4,000 shutter actuations and would not fire the shutter on the first shot after turning it on, but every subsequent shot worked. The issue has been getting less frequent the more I use it and I haven't had any sensor damage. Also worked out that it could be freed up by swithching to Live View and then turning the camera off and back on again. I suspect it had sat for a long period of time without being used, as it was made in 2016. I bought it damaged (rear screen cracked), so didn't pay much for it and it has been great (I've repaired the rear screen with windscreen repair resin, so it's now secure and working fine).

I discovered why my K1 won't fire properly at the first actuation. The mirror goes up but it doesn't come back down without a lot of button jabbing and even removing the battery. After that kerfuffle it works fine all day long. I'm just dreading the day it stays up!
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
