Hi,

We now have in stock a cheaper alternative to the Pentax Remote Controls and Cable Switches. We have tested these in the PU office and they do exactly the same job as the Pentax versions. They are for sale for £9 each (£8 to PU members) and postage is included in that price for delivery to the UK. Check them out here:

Does the remote support bulb exposures? I know people have found that some third party ones don't.

Ta,
Dan

I've got a Pentax one too, but at £8 it might be worth buying a couple.

It would increase the chances of finding one to hand...

I mean, of course, having a backup...

I've got two of those fiddly Pentax remote thingies. Trouble is . . . I can only find one, it's in the K10D grip. I've no idea where the other one has got to. They are very small and hence very easy to misplace.

I have the JJC cable switch which works well. I also have a Pentax remote control. It lives in the handy pocket on my Pentax strap. Not the strap that came with the camera - one from an earlier Pentax camera.

As I still have not been able to buy the Pentax version (as rare as hen's teeth), I have decided to order one of each.

At less than half the price for the Pentax version, it seems a good deal.

To quote Pete "features a trigger lock for doing bulb photography (long exposures) if your camera has a B setting".

We do have some of the Pentax Version ones in as well. They have been very popular and we always sell out quickly.

That's the cable release, I asked about the (wireless) remote.

Also the links don't work now, they seem to have changed the product codes.

Thanks Dan, Had to make a change on the Shop site and forgot it would effect the links!

The wireless remotes don't support Bulb photography.

Thanks

Well thank goodness I've been a bit busy these last couple of days. I was on the point of ordering two (one for me, and one as a present), but I didn't quite get round to it.

I would not have been a happy customer. Thanks for clarifying, anyway.

My two JJC remotes arrived this morning and they work fine.

I can see why the infra-red ones get lost

Despite this thread, I note the following from the Pentax User Newsletter received today:

"We now have in stock a cheaper alternative to the Pentax Remote Controls and Cable Switches. We have tested these in the PU office and they do the same job as the Pentax versions."

Clearly the wireless one does not do the same job.

This is shoddy, in my view. It is now a week after the discussion that established that the wireless remote doesn't do bulb, and the only difference in the text is a weaselly change, removing the word "exactly".

I can only apologise for that, due to the embargo i've had most the newsletter ready to go since Matt came back from the launch last week and have neglected to change that. Of course, if anyone buys one and is unhappy with the fact that bulb photography can be done then a full refund will be given.
