Remote activation of the WG-M1

Does anyone know of a way of remotely activating a Ricoh WG-M1 other than using a mobile/tablet app? The reason I ask is that I take marine photographs and really don't fancy the idea of leaning over the side of a boat with the WG on the end of a pole in one hand and a mobile in the other. I was hoping that the Pentax waterproof remote control 0-RC1 might work but I've no idea if the WG-M1 has infra red capability.

Now if there was a suitable WiFi remote trigger.... Any advice would be much appreciated.

Seems to be designed for use with an app - phone or tablet - but....

Given that with this on a pole, etc, you won't be able to see what you're shooting anyway, why not just switch it on in video mode then pull individual frames off the video in post?

Or, if remote control is essential, maybe a Garmin Virb or Virb Elite?

Many thanks, I think you're quite right in suggesting using the video mode and then pulling off stills. Unfortunately, there is an inevitable loss in resolution but at least I'd be more likely to get the shot I want from the video. What a shame Pentax/Ricoh don't make a dedicated WiFi remote trigger.

Does the WG-M1 not have a built in timer?
I wish .....
