I am in the market for a reasonable tripod and head so have been having a look around to see whats available.
I have read good things about Red snapper tripods and their ballhead and was wondering if anyone has had any dealings with the make.

Thanks.

I use a Manfrotto tripod and Monopod with ball heads now after useing a Jessops own brand for 10 years. Met a guy about 12 months ago that used a Red Snapper Tripod, it looked well made and he had a Nikon D2X sitting on a ball head. If you can like I did this time I took my K20D with me and tried the camera on all makes till I was happy..

I have two Slik pistol grips (one on a Velbon tripod and one on a Velbon monopod) and would not be without them :-

I bought a Velbon P-max when I got my K10D which seemed a pretty good one to buy but to be honest the thing moves at the slightest hint of wind, I think it is probably made for cameras lighter than my Pentax with grip and 135-400mm lens.
I may try the Redsnapper but now onto heads .. what advantages does a pistol grip have over the other types, infact what is the advantage of each head available .. I know diddly squat about them tbh.

Maybe you just need a heavier duty model, there are heaps of good 'uns out there and most of the more well known flavours have good BS heads to go with them.

Get yourself to a good camera shop somewhere and give them a whirl to see what suits you best.

A good tripod cost money, serious money. My tripod/head set up cost nearly as much as a camera! It is as solid as a rock, even with the Bigma and K20D on it, in a wind.
Cheap tripods are a false investment. Always always buy the best you can afford, make sure it will hold more than you are ever likely to put on it, and make sure the head will hold the same weight or more.
