Re> Pentax K20D Which Flash gun to buy
Oh and Hi, welcome
this a good read to start with
http://knol.google.com/k/matthew-miller/pentax-p-ttl-hot-shoe-flash-comparison/3...
The metz and the pentax are very good and also the Sigma for the money.
They are all pretty much the same to be honest but they all handle differently so try them out in the shop to see what you like the most.
Cheers

Welcome Prem.
Of the Pentax flashes, if you have the money go for the AF540FGZ. It's more powerful, has tilt & rotate (the AF360FGZ has tilt only), and the battery door is more substantial.
You could also look out for the Samsung SEF-54PZF a copy of AF540FGZ

Another shout here for the Metz 58!
If you do insist on a Pentax flash, the prices are due to shoot up from the current £329 to around £500, so make that decision and buy now whilst there is still old stock at old prices!
The Metz is currently £75 cheaper than the Pentax 540, a touch more powerful, with a secondary flash, useful for highlights from the front when the main flash is tilted or swiveled. Not only that, when the price rises kick in it will be even more of a bargain!
(Based on SRS prices, the forum's official sponsor!)
I too am new to the forum, and have the same question about which flash to buy for me K10D!
I was ALL for the AF-540FGZ, had I not read some reviews about problems with zoom sticking etc- lots of issues reported on Amazon :

I am a novice by PU standards, have recently bought a Pentax Slave Flash recently, still experimenting and trying to figure out how to use it to good advantage- in theory, it should give me interesting results, but..well still trying!
There were also similar concerns(QA issues & reviews) about the DA* 16-50, but that was so high up on my list, and the people at SRS were very helpful on the Pentax Open day, that I ended up buying the lens, and I am happy with it.
Thks to Anvh for the knol link, I will check it out.
The post has come at a good time, as the flash & a good camera bag is next on me list, (as is the DA*50-135!! sigh- someday, I will have them all!!)

Hi Peter
Glad to inform that I have managed to get a good deal on Pentax AF540FGZ flash from PurelyGadgets, the cheapest at the moment. I have also bought the Sto-fen omni bounce diffuser for it as well as the remote for the camera.
What I would really like to know is regarding the purchase of Hoya Polarising filters for my lenses. I have read some rave reviews for it and the enhancement of the quality of the pics. Your advice is much appreciated. DA 18-55, DA 55-300 lenses.
Cheers
Prem

I recently bought K20D along with battery grip and a spare battery. I intend to buy Pentax brand flash and was wondering if anyone can give some advice on which one to go for i.e.,AF-360FGZ or AF-540FGZ for my K20D.
Cheers
