Q users - can you shed any light on this???

I use my Q a LOT...

So that might be the problem but just in case let me describe whats been happening of late and maybe some out there might be able to help.

Over the last few weeks my Q will suddenly power off - its not overly hot and can happen within minutes if using it.
In addition to that problem I am now getting an F-- reading and no response from the lenses (01 02 03)

I turn it off and twist the lens on and off and power back on. As time goes on its getting worse and worse. Today for example when I put my 01 lens on it asked me to enter the focal length of my lens (you know when you have enter it having attached a non Q lens?)

Anyways I am low on money and only using this little camera for my digital shots at the mo

Any thoughts?

I've never had this issue with my Q, but I'd suggest making sure the contacts on body and lenses are clean. Might be worth doing a reset to the factory default settings?

Hope that helps.

Sounds like some kind of contact issue Alastair ....a break in communications through the mount. The standard sort of first response to this is to clean the mount and the contacts, but I'm not the one to advise how best to do this .... Hopefully a Q owner who has tired it might see this.

Yea I gave it a wipe with my lens cloth earlier and used the rocket blower. I might try that factory reset idea Steve never thought of that.

Do you use all your recent Firmware updates when you do that?

A wipe with a lens cloth might not be enough, try using some surgical spirit or WD40.
I had a similar issue and had to CLEAN all the contacts, not just wipe them.

Initially a dry clean cotton or microfibre cloth would be safest. It does sound like an issue with the conracts on body or lenses.

With your Q suddenly turning itself off, could it be your battery is starting to fail? If its voltage is fluctuating. It is a long shot. Do you have a spare battery and have you tried it?
I did have the problem of my Q not keeping the correct time and date which was fixed when I formatted the memory card, not a connection one would assume.

Good luck, wishing you success.

Try cleaning the battery contacts too. A pencil rubber is pretty useful for that.

have you updated your firmwear recently as it may be a firmware problem
which might mean a reinstall or take it back to the original firmware and start again
