Hip Hip Hooray!

Looking at the May 2016 issue they have been testing Macro lenses...the 100 mm WR has been included. Normally I don't see a Pentax offering.

Sadly scores only 3/5

was this a factor?: lack of extra features like image stabilisation is slightly disappointing...

I have been thinking about cancelling my subs to the mag even because of the pro-Canon slant in the reviews (I use Nikon as well as Pentax) and dismayed by some of the testers remarks. But this convinced me to.

Twitter comment left.

I stopped buying it years ago, I'm sure it's sponsored by canon

I see this:

"Get into gear Ė Canonís 1D X MkII and Nikonís D5 go head-to-head in the ultimate flagship DSLR test"

and think;
"apart from readers of the Sun and Daily Star, which photographers who use either of these cameras would have even heard of Practical Photography?"

I gave up looking at photography mags within six months of buying anl Oly C-3030Z.

Best regards

In video terms it is disappointing. Manufacturers stopped including stabilisation in the lens, because Pentax has it inbody. Fair enough, but then Pentax stopped offering it for video, leaving a void...

See link below which makes that ridiculous magazine look even more ridiculous

https://www.ephotozine.com/article/pentax-d-fa-100mm-f-2-8-macro-wr-lens-review-...

Time for an comprensive boycott, It is singularly the most "impotent" and uninformative rag out there; with few exceptions none of them are of much use and nine of them are worth £5 for sure.

Practical Photography is only a very biased and glorified sales publication Offering nothing to for the hobbyist, enthusisat or pro photographer.

Also noticed that Pentax didn't pick up a single award in the Photography News Award and there were many catagories ( the boss, a well known Mr Ch.... is unnofficial and self proclaimed "Head of Canon marketing ")..

Should "Practical Photography" be renamed : "Impractical photograpy"

On second thoughts maybe Peter's choice "Practical Pornography" does it full justice.

Ken Rockwells Verdict after full test of 100 Wr (Macro)

This is a great little lens for any Pentax. It's small, sharp, fast, light and tough.

It offers essentially perfect optical performance and is the world's smallest and lightest 100mm macro lens.

I remember Outdoor Photographer mag had a review of a new Nikon macro a few years ago and proclaimed that it was first time IS was available for a macro lens on any make. To their credit they publish my letter pointing out it was available on every lens in the Oly, Sony and Pentax line up, including macros thanks to the in body IS.

I think some of these reviews are written in a hurry with some reviews having a 1 or 2 brand centric view, so don't realise basic facts like Pentax have in body IS. Also Anything they find different to those brands (i.e. the menus) is seen as not as intuitive by them and reviewed as such.

Not ironic... I remember the good old days when the photo mags used to be adorned by scantilly clad ladies....hence the nickname.

I still refer to one long running magazine as "Amateur Pornographer"

Another quote from the review in Practical Pornography
Quote:
As a third-party lens, the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro is available with mounts to match Canon, Nikon, Sigma and Sony bodies,

It is still available in K-mount, not that you'd know from their review...

They are also quick to point out that the 'rubbish' Pentax 100mm macro is one of only 14 lenses that fit the Pentax K-1...

Almost as if they are trying to put people of buying Pentax...
