That's very interesting. Does RGB being restricted to 24 bits (16777216 colours) cause any problems?

The shots we get done commercially are all shot in RAW and then balanced perfectly before being supplied to us as JPEGs in AdobeRGB. As such generally there is nothing we then do to the images before they go to print. Sometimes if we are going to print on uncoated paper then I boost the saturation and knock the brightness up a bit - but that's it. The quality of the images is so high that they always look really good in print - even though they are JPEGs. We used to use TIFFs all the time and now that we use JPEGs there is no discernible difference in the print, whether it's litho or digital.

Thanks for the extra information. Nice to know that JPEGs can be used as the finished image.

Just to add of course, that we only ever use the highest quality setting (12) when saving them in Photoshop.

According to this article 11 and 12 aren't needed 10 should be maximum quality..
