Actually a pretty good review for the K-3, wins an Essential award... Whatever that means

Knocking the kit lenses isn't knocking the camera and as Pentax kit lenses are possibly the best of any make in any event that's a pretty good thumbs up.

I can only assume the reviewers are either lens snobs or have never really used the 18-55 or 18-135 and just gone out and read a few bad reviews.
They are both rock solid lenses and as a starter are really good. I get quite annoyed when reviewers make dumb comments like that.

Pentax K3, DA 18-55 WR, Sigma 50-500 EX DG HSM, Pentax M-50, a bucket load of SD cards, some lights and a lightbox

The 18-55 is pretty bad in my experience, smeared looking and cyan fringed towards the edges even stopped down. No such issues with my DA16-45 or Tamron 17-50mm. Maybe people have had better luck with their samples, but I find myself in agreement with the reviewers - the K3 deserves a better lens!

I think the kit lenses are ok for what they are but I hear you there Pentaxophile! It would not do Ricoh/Pentax a disservice to resurrect the 16-45 as the kit lens, and what a kit lens it would be!
Cheers Jules...

The 18-55mm WR works well for me, usually at f/11 or f/16. Wide open it will be softer, but that might be good for portraits. It suits this sort of thing:
I prefer the 18-135mm, which is sharp and wiry and gives a nice gritty feel to the images. That suits this type of image:

They say
We really can't think of anything bad to say about the new Pentax K-3, other than it deserves a better lens than either the 18-55 or 18-135mm kit lenses to realise its true potential.
