Hand signing gives it that unique (low batch) feel to it too.
Just my thouhgts though, no idea what the most common is.

Mayde it's better to sign the photo on the frame (backside the frame) or on the backside of the print in such a way that it does not show through the print.

My thoughts are that the reason for signing it is to add that individual touch, if customers can't see your signature when on display then there's little point in adding one....sign the front but to be on the safe side maybe make it quite discreet
