True, but you can copy negatives/slides in to a computer.

They have been modified by a computer once you do that.

It's a competition that has to be uploaded to. Whether the originals were digital files, slides or prints doesn't matter, only that they were taken with Pentax cameras.
Best regards, John

Perhaps if you were a little less rude and aggressive you might get more of a response.
People have tried to answer the question, but it really wasn't very clear.

A quote from the Article inviting you to enter. " There's no theme, we just want to see the best images you have in your collection."

Maybe because the judges haven't seen the question to answer it.
Almost all digital photos entered will have been modified in some way, even if it is just resizing the file, or a touch of sharpening. If you scan a slide into your computer then you can modify that in the same way as a native digital photo.
You really do seem to have a problem with people using software on their photos. I can't see what is wrong with it - you can't make a silk purse from a pig's ear, and no matter how much you manipulate it you can't make a basically bad photo into a good one.

Yes I've used slide film. So?
You can scan your slides into your computer and do what the heck you like with them, including entering them into any competition you choose.
I can't see what your problem is.

Funny how people read things! I took "Never use slide film?" as a statement that walkeja did not use slide film, and the question mark was "so what now" ignoring the fact you can scan any image.

Some folk just like to make ambiguous statements to get a response , I have been caught like that me'self.
Photographs have always been altered , dodging and burning ,cropping , sepia tinting , overpainting and hand colouring. Photoshop is much the same only less messy ... jeff...

I assumed, since slides were the mentioned in his original post that he does use slide film.
I did, once upon a time, long, long ago. Can't be bothered to scan any of them though.
John seems to be very anti manipulation of photos, digitally or in the dark room, so maybe that is why he likes slides so much.

I haven't shot much slide film, except Boots-branded stuff when I first got interested in photography as a teenager. But I believe that different slide films show different colour and contrast signatures - colourful Velvia vs neutral Provia, etc. Your choice of slide film is therefore a conscious 'manipulation' of the scene you are recording. There ought to be little to do in terms of PP, other than as stated, maybe a little cropping and sharpening.

Are the photographs judged on the photographic merits or are they judged because they have been modified by a computer?
The reason for asking is, I am wondering what would happen to a slide entered into the 3 monthly competition?
