Pentax's Position in DSLR sales

Seems right to me. Sony is concentrating on mirrorless, Olympus is only mirrorless, so the DSLR market is left to the big two, and Pentax pretty much.

Very interesting as far as it goes. The sales looked at were 50% of Japanese sales, so the worldwide picture may be very different. In any event, the DSLR continues to sell despite major inroads my the mirrorless manufacturers. I'm not sure it matters where it will end up, we have no control over that, but the cameras we use should be around for longer than many of us will need them.

Yep, it's got that vibe of being one of the top 3 cassette music tape manufacturers, when others have started selling digital CD's.

Quite sad that only three companies still make DSLRs, although it may be more than three as sometimes low cost bodies are made by people we don't expect. I have a feeling Cosina made some Nikon bodies. Still, the point holds. There are only three, unless we count the fixed mirror Sony models?

A sort of hybrid, but it is based on the SLR principle. The difference is no mirror movement is needed, but of course any dust on the pellicle mirror will show up on images.

Presumably there was some light loss as well? In any case, it seems to have been abandoned by those who made them in favour of totally mirrorless designs.

The translucent mirrors were on their original models. I believe they are all discontinued now and all recent models are mirrorless.
The advantage of the DSLT was obviously the view through the lens, plus the lack of mirror movement which gave higher frame rates. But this was at a time when EVFs were not as developed as now. As I understand it, from the point of view of Sony at least, the supposed advantages of translucent mirrors became outweighed by the supposed benefits of their newer EVFs ..... ?
