……….and here's me thinking I'd found a compact with a viewfinder
The Optio S has a viewfinder which zooms with the lens - there may be others from the same era?
I think it was the S5i which was the last with the optical finder. If I remember correctly, the Optio S was 3Mp and the "5i" if that is the one I'm thinking about was 5Mp. (Mine stooped working a couple of years ago and I didn't replace it) After that, the got rid of the finder and went for a bigger screen.

I've tried one or two without a viewfinder and just can not get away with looking at a screen. Possibly it's my eyes 'cause I just can't see it, or rather what's on it.
I know the feeling. I need to carry about 3 pairs of glasses to use a screen. That's why I got the S5i in the first place. Very good camera in it's day and even depressing review found it to be one of the best. The still come up on that auction site. But they are quite dated now. Have you tried a compact with an EVF like the Sony RX100?
