Hi all,

Just been to Focus NEC today, here are some of the prices on the Cecil Jacobs stand:

K5 body - £879 YES....879.
K7 body - £579
KX & 18-55 - £329
KR & 18-55 - sorry didnt write it down!
12-24mm - £729
21 DA - £429
40 DA - none
70 DA - £449
35 macro DA - £369
35/2.4 - £129
200/2.8 - £729
16-50 - £699
50-135 - £899
16-45 - £249
18-135 - £479

....but oh the Pentax stand...what a disaster. Let me just be clear, I am very fond of the quality of Pentax products and their lenses in particular, but the total ineptitude of Pentax UK beggars belief.

They actually have a large (and therefore expensive) stand at the UK's largest trade show and what do they do with it? NOTHING.

The stand is by far the worst at the show excluding the small manufacturers. It is sparser than sparse and looks like it was done last night in a spare half hour. The lens display cabinet looks like something knocked up in a garden shed. They are (unbelievably) giving out a Pentax lens brochure that must be at least two years out of date, as NONE of the WR lenses are even in it!

They (at last) have a FANTASTIC new camera, the K5, almost universally praised to the heavens and Pentax UK see fit to do NO special K5 display, NO special K5 marketing, NO nothing specifically to promote the K5....NOTHING.

The Pentax UK marketing people need shooting.

The Pentax stand was almost deserted for large portions of the day, the LOVELY Fuji X100 by itself was unfortunately drawing more punters than the whole Pentax stand most of the day.

No Canon, No Olympus, No Ricoh.

But still worth going to...

cheers Steve.M.

Damn. At the very least thanks for sharing the bad news. No Canon as well right? But still. Oh Pentax. Samsung should have just bought you instead (along with Samyang).

Well the Fuji X100 is being hidden at the back on, and only one on display...

PENTAX has 6 K-5 with DA* zoom lenses on them so I do not see it being so bad!

I suppose they can show-case their pancakes and let people have a play with them, instead on letting them absorb heats from the lightbox o_0
Still learning!

Zooms: DA12-24 | DA16-45 | DA*50-135 | DA55-300
Primes: FA31 | DFA100WR | M50F1.7

Do you seriously mean they dont have the 645d on show?

They certainly did have the 645D - one in the morning and a second appeared in the afternoon. What a beautifully crafted machine it is.

The Jacobs stand had about 5 Pentax 645D's with 55mm lens for £9,999 - and they were "throwing in" an FA 55-110 lens (RRP £1500ish)!

I'm down on Wednesday and if the K-5 is there for £879 then one will be coming home with me.

See if you can put your name down for a Demo model after the show. You may save another £100 or so.

I rather liked the Pentax stand, there was room to breathe and the folks from Pentax UK were as friendly as ever. I got to play with everything I could want to play with (without having to fight my way through the marauding hordes like I did to get to the Fuji X100) and picked up a couple of freebies.

Obviously one man's disaster is another's success.

I agree with Hefty, and they had enough staff on hand to answer questions, and they did have the K5 limited in silver in a display cabinet with the 43mm Ltd.

As an aside to this I was greeted by another Pentaxian who noticed my K5, so keep your eyes peeled for a possible new member of the Forum

It looks terrible on the web.

My question is, does it look like a bad job with spray paint or like it will last?

The silver finish matched that of the FA43 mounted to it. I've got two silver FA Limiteds and there's no sign of any paint peeling off them just yet so I'd imagine it's quite hardwearing.
