Pentax K1 continous auto focus in live mode
it doesn't have it, does it? Just to confirm it (I don't use LV so I am not an expert with it)
According to page 53 of the manual the modes available are:
Face Detection (Detects and tracks faces of people. The main face detection frame for AF and AE is displayed in yellow.)
Tracking (Tracks the subject in focus. The shutter can be released even if the subject is not in focus.)
Multiple AF Points (Sets the focusing area to the desired area. The sensor is divided into 35 areas (7 horizontal by 5 vertical), and you can select a wider or narrower focusing area by using 1, 9, 15, or 25 of those 35 available areas.)
Select (Sets the focusing area by the pixel.)
Spot (Sets the focusing area to a limited area at the centre.)
So its not quite the same as using the viewfinder but it must be continuous if it can do tracking.
edit: tried again, the focus updates only if the tracking point changes...SUPER WEIRD
yeah that's what I thought, but it didn't work...the focus point was following the tracked point, but the focus was not changing....weird

Someone else found this too. I thought I was going crazy, but I've observed similar behaviours with the K-30/K-S1
In live view, you can set to face identification, which does correctly identify and track the face around the screen, as it moves forward and backwards.
BUT, the lens focus doesn't change, to which you have to wonder, what the heck is the point of that:
Given live view is so very close to video mode, the only camera I expect to see this work on would be the K-70, as it has on sensor phase detection points and they made a big deal about continuous autofocus abilities on that one during video mode. It only works with powered lenses though, so that rules out anything I've got anyway.
Anyone else care to try this? My testing wasn't exhaustive by any means, just a confused observation at the time. A bit like why the shutter fires as the start and end of video mode capture, but not if the lens is set to f4...

That's an extremely specific quirk. I'd love to know the reasoning behind it (most like a bug or poor coding).

I think (guess hat on here) that that's the aperture of live view/optical preview by default?
Probably drives the aperture at the start and end of recording, but doesn't need to if you've opted to record at the same preview aperture it's already on.
It's weird though. I'd prefer if they drove it to the aperture I select when in live view changing options. There's no reason why it couldn't, but then...

Yeah that's right what's the of tracking if the focus doesn't change? And why does it refocus if instead the point changes ?
Because Pentax?
