But for some reason it doesn't seem to be available via the official Ricoh on-line store.

Some people call me 'strange'.
I prefer 'unconventional'.
But I'm willing to compromise and accept 'eccentric'.

Note that the full DSLR K-S1 is very slightly lighter than the liveview only K-01.

The lightest Pentax DSLR is the KS-1 - a great little camera that uses all the K mount lenses. The KS-2 is a little newer but slightly heavier. If money is no object then look at the KP.

I have one of the K-S1 cameras and really rate it. Build quality is good, although it's very light weight, which means it all seems a bit delicate.
By that I mean I could probably go bowling with the K-3 fine, but the K-S1 would probably break

The K-P would be my go to for a Pentax travel camera, paired with a 35mm type prime lens. The K-S1 works well for this size also. ( *Edit: Actually I'd probably go Olympus mirrorless for a smaller lens/body combo for travel, which can do real sensor stabilised video at higher bit rates as well, but that's another story.)
The K-S1 represents incredible value if you can get one cheap. Assume they're still current? The K-S1 offers a real optical viewfinder, no AA filter 20MP sensor etc. It's capable of extremely good photos, albeit in a much smaller/lighter weight casing.
It has a small burst buffer, which is annoying if you need this to be higher. The grip is almost non existent, so watch this if you have big hands. Even Fleur and my photographer in the making daughter prefer the moulded grip of the K-30/K-3 style, so not sure who the smaller grip is actually for.
I knocked the heck out of them initially, as Pentax tends to launch with a very high price. This means they get reviewed against higher grade opposition, and then 6 months later they reduce the price to where it probably should have been in the market originally. If reviewed then it would present as far greater value.
The grip lights are actually really good for a group portrait countdown timer.
There ya go, a little mini review of the K-S1
