I've been searching through the info I have, and so far without success. If you have had partial success, can you give some clues as to how old these might be?
Best regards, John

Hi John,

Thanks for trying to help...

I have 'picked up' a box full and am having real difficulty identifying the Pentax ones, hence the Q. I tried the Bojidar site, but that entails going through every lens info listing and then he has only identified some of the matching lens cases, so I have managed to identify some.

They appear to be SMC-A cases. The HE169 is for the SMC-A 28-135/4, the HE-189 is for the SMC-A* 300/4, but I have the HE189B !!! so assume it fits a similar lens. The HG140 fits the SMC-A 100/2.8 Macro, the HG90 I have no clue yet and I also have the S90-140 soft case, which I assume fits a later AF lens. I think the HG115 cases are for 645 lenses, but I am not sure. The internet is great, but I am not finding any resource for lens case info!..but I guess it is a bit anoraky.

Olympus kindly mark the lens on the case, but this simple idea seems to have passed by the other lens makers. I also wonder If some of the cases match more than one lens.

Regards Steve.

Hi Steve,
Not a full answer but perhaps it may be of some help. Pentax did put the lens type on the case before the A series then they coded it. The H is for hard case, the second letter is the diameter and the numbers refer to the length. If there was an insert for a specific lens, the case had a suffix such as B.

If you check out my website at http://www.pentax-manuals.com/manuals/accessories/accessmanuals.htm, the lens manuals do list some of the case numbers for the specific lenses. I have yet to do some of the manuals so I will have a look and see if I can fill in any of the holes. However, Pentax did use some of the same lettering for the 645 lenses so they may not all be there. The 90/140 is for a 645 lens, the S70s and S80s were for the 35mm lenses. However, it is a useful case for the more recent AF lenses with the hood reversed

PS. I am looking for some cases, are there any spare you wish to sell? PM me if there are.

Many thanks
Kim

Late reply, but to add for reference purposes:

I have the HG-115C hard case, which came in a 645 A 2.8/58mm box. However, the lens that came in it was the 2.8/75mm.... The hard case is for the 55mm, though.

The HG-115 fits the 645 LS 4/135mm lens, which is not one of the most common ones.

The S90-140 soft case is for the DA 4/16-45mm lens, the aps-c one, but perhaps it was a case of double duty. I would not know of any 645 lens, however, that would fit it, that have not have their own soft case already.
