I was aking why I would want to use such a lens on my camera .. what you prefer to do is of absolutely no interest to me whatsoever .. rather like most of your posts.

Yet you are the one off topic, trolling in fact. Please check the thread title in case this confuses you.

You really are on the wrong forum if you think every thread should stay on topic .. Infact by your "standards" possibly every single poster on this forum is a troll.

Have a good day and try to lighten up a bit .. it is Christmas after all

I'm rather looking forward to a 12-35 mm. I hope it goes into production and does not cost a fortune.

Judging by the price of the 12-24mm and the more recent 18-135mm (in the UK at least) I think you may be slightly disappointed.

Robin, Mike isn't trolling, He is repeating a long-standing complaint of pentaxuser.co.uk long lens users (of which he is a pre-eminent example).

Do you even know what trolling means? Being off-topic is not the same as trolling, and you should know it. In fact I think you DO know it, and you yourself are engaged in a little trolling.

As you are no doubt aware - if you have spent much time viewing photos shared here - Mike's super telephoto images are outstanding, and if anyone has a right to criticise Pentax's lack of long glass it is him. On the flip side of the same coin, I don't recall seeing many of your super telephoto images.

PS Merry Christmas.

To say my argument about forum etiquette lacks merit because I don't take telephoto images is to be dimmer than the candle we have lit in the window to greet our Christmas visitors. Neither point has the slightest thing to do with the other.

I hope you get much joy from repeating "long-standing complaints" on each and every topic where you think we care. Being off topic repeatedly in order to stir up ill will is trolling.

Anyway .. at the moment it seems my K-5 has got lost somewhere between Mifsuds and Johnsons so any lens is the least of my worries

You have my sympathy Mike. At least mine is not lost, it has reached Johnsons Phototia but they have shut up shop for the festive season and do not reopen till 4th January. Hope I get it (or a replacement) in time for my trip to Australia in the middle of January.

Where down under will you be headed?might have a few tips for your trip
C&C welcome.
Don.

Well it's certainly not long telephoto lenses over 300mm f4 at dawn ... because Pentax DOESN'T MAKE ONE.

Ooops ... I can't believe I just bought up this long standing complaint again.

I suppose the reason why Pentax don't make a long telephoto is because it would never be enough. Say they make a 400mm f5.6 prime (hypothetical choice because Canon's is reasonably-priced, and it fits in the line of 200 f2.8, 300 f4 as we have now) - this wouldn't help those who (like Mike) feel that 500mm on the Bigma sometimes isn't enough. Absent a massive Manchester City-scale takeover by a company wanting to take on the long tele market, Pentax wouldn't produce enough to stop long tele people going to Canon anyway so perhaps they have decided making an attempt isn't worth the cost.

Now THAT is how a point of view should be put across.

Probably a pretty decent guesstimate of the situation actually and without having to resort to name calling and declaring to the world that all the people wanting a long telephoto should be burned at the stake for trying to bring Pentax to it's knees.

I suppose leaving the 600mm f4 in the catalogues won't cost anything, as no-one (well hardly anyone) will actually order one, but it keeps up appearances!

The useful one would probably be an 80-400mm zoom, especially as one ready-made may be within grasp, but of course then the clamour will be for something longer again...

According to Pentax Japan the 600 F4 was discontinued some time ago. That saying, most of the other lenses mentioned still seem to be around. Clear as mud.

It was only 1,417,500 yen (11,086 + Import Duty) Why did they discontinue it? No point in me doing the Lottery Now!

Edit::: Never mind I can get a N(ikon) for 7,500 which leaves room to buy a camera as well ebay
So I'll keep on buying the occasional Lottery ticket and crossing my fingers
Half Man... Half Pentax ... Half Cucumber

Pentax K-1 + K-5 and some other stuff
