Pentax A* 300mm f/2.8 @ Ffordes - £899

As the title says, there's a very rare/expensive lens currently on the Ffordes website. At £899 it's a bit cheaper than the one Peng was selling earlier this year (although his came with a great carry case).

Here's the link:

Enjoy.

Thanks. It says it comes with a case.
I've got the DA* so not sure I need another 300. A good price non the less.

Same here. It looks like the kind of lens that would be great for astrophotography but I guess that bumping up the ISO using the K-1 and DA* a bit would have a bit of a similar impact without hurting my pocket too much.

If you put it in there it might prove uncomfortable and potentially fall out!

I can't remember the last time I saw one of these as low a price as this. It still holds its own against the current 300's with the advantage of that extra stop and it works beautifully with the A series converters. The clear downsides are the size and weight, but if you've got a particular purpose in mind then it's well worth it

This was taken with it and A 2x-L converter, handheld - I haven't mastered it yet but I suspect it'll be a real asset for the future

Must admit I was tempted by this. But I've given myself a shake and won't bite

I'm still tempted. I hate LBA (and I love it too, don't get me wrong!).

EDIT: As I wrote that last comment, the beast was taken!

I don't think anyone is regretting that one, and we've got a troop of 'other halves' also cheering behind us.

Wilco, and thanks Haris for the heads up.
I became tempted after seeing some photos with it on a German forum. The photographer liked using it with the 1.7x converter.
See https://www.pentaxians.de/40456504nx51499/lens-clubs-f46/pentax-a-300mm-f28-ed-i... (use Google translate if you need to.)

Now I'm heading off to weight lifting classes in readiness! 3Kg!

Must say Ffordes have done well out of me this year, third purchase, but can't complain at the prices of what I've bought.

I had one and used it with the 1.7x, 1.4xL and 2xL

Excellent lens, had to sell mine in order to buy the FA* 250-600mm f5.6 but it worked well with all 3 teleconverters.

Didn't see the Ffordes listing, is it in decent condition?

It's in 'Ex+' condition and comes with the usual good stuff.

Let us know how you get on, John!
