Pentax 6x7 Shutter Inconsistent

Posted 01/11/2018 - 06:56 Link
Hello all,

I recently purchased a Pentax 6x7, and I got a few rolls developed - I noticed that a handful of my frames were blank and I discovered that if I shoot at a shutter of 1/500 or 1/1000 the shutter curtain will not open every time. Every 2-4 shutter clicks, the shutter curtain will for some reason decide not to open.

Is this a known issue with the camera? I am debating on whether or not I should send it in for repairs or if I should just return it and purchase a different body online.

Physically, it's a big shutter mechanism and will need servicing from time to time. If it's a 6x7, as opposed to a 67, then it will be quite old by now, so a service is probably long overdue.

If it's in nice general condition I'd have that service done. Most 6x7 and 67 cameras would have been used professionally, so worked quite hard, and there's no guarantee that another one wouldn't have the same or some other defect.
Best regards, John
