Looking forward to seeing the results Peter. Makes my 2010 Fuji colour film seem positively new, just waiting for the K1000 to come back from repair in order to use it. Your recent results have inspired me to getting the K1000 out again, keep up the good work.

If this is the 64 ASA that came out in 1951 (according to wikipedia) and we use the rule of reducing sensitivity by a stop every decade then I calculate it'll need to be exposed at EI 0.5
If it's the earlier ASA 40 then lower still.

In 1951 they had a 'Safety Factor' of one stop with the film sensitivity rating so it was really 125ASA but I will see what happens -- loaded a 'Classic Spotmatic-F' but lots of Hospital appointments this week and I need to make up some Kodak DK50 formula which is good for long outdated films.

YO !!! - got first test result ! Today was Basildon Hospital, tubes up Bum and in my Stoma BUT on arrival at home there was couple of hours of SUNSHINE so did the first test of the 1952 FP3. I loaded my Spotmatic F, took a Weston Master V Incident light reading which went to '12' and set 100 ASA to start -- so got 1/60th at f16. then went all the way to f1.4 using the 1/60th then cut film and processed in my FX-4 Formujla 1+1 for a 'Guessed' 9 mins at 20oC -- result very high FOG level BUT Images ! The f1.4 was very black and contrasty -- the 'best' one was at f4 which was 10 ASA so I will CUT the dev time to 7.5 mins next time , same as I givde my outdated FP4+ ------ Keep Watching !

Today was Basildon Hospital again but SUNNY in Brentwood do I braved the COLD and took out my Asahi Pentax Spotmatic-F loaded with the cut October 1952 Dated ILFORD FP3 and took a few, rating film at 10 ASA. I used SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4 and SMC Takumar 150mm f4 and processed in FX-4 Formula 1+1 for 7 mins @ 20oC and got some good negs to scan , albeit with a high 'FOG level' ! Next Test I will try my FX-15 ( Acutol-S) Formula 1+1 In the shade, Weston Master V gave 1/60th @ f1.4 -- the old film needs the SUN and so did my Hands -- I rushed home for a warm drink.

Incredible! .... Who would have thought that 1952 film was so good and capable of producing these results about 70 years later.
Well done Peter you are a master of B&W.

i recently bought a medium format camera on ebay (Zeiss Ikon 6x9). inside was a roll of Ilford, similar to this. research put it at at least 50 years old, probably 5-10 years more.
I stuck it in the tank with Rodinol and was very surprised when 2 images emerged. They had the backing tape markings on (not an issue with 35mm). That 'Selo' film seems to be indestructable. no wonder Ilford are still in business.
great shots with the expired film - better than a lot of mine with new!

Pentax k1000, MX, ME Super, K5iiD 18-55, Tamron 70-300, Tamron 500 mirror, pentax 10-17, 50 1:4, a manual 28, some extension tubes and a bagful of memory cards. That's all i need... and a load of film cameras too... that's it, honest.
