I use the simple, cheap Chinese one commonly available on Ebay. You can change the battery in them (you can't in an O-RC1) and they are absolutely reliable.

Thanks Guys. I just wanted to know before trying to get one.. I have 5 of the cheap chinese ones David, would you believe. Having kept swapping them as they were very unreliable. Was just wanting to take a selfie portrait for my camera club. Getting very frustrated in the process..

Why not just use the 12 sec. timer built into the camera. That should give you enough time to get back in position for the shot.

Because Vic. I'm as thick as 2 short planks. And forgot all about it. Until I'd messed about for over an hour trying infra red, swapping batteries, generally messing about, With what i thought was the easy route.....lol

Mine is on its second battery now having never failed at all. I mistrusted it at first as it was cheap and bought a second one (it's still unused).

I had one of the cheapies - worked for a while, then intermittently; had to keep dismantling it and fiddling with battery contacts if I recall, so gave up on it!

If I have forgotten my remote, I use my phone to trigger my camera (I like to use the MLU function with remote for close-ups). I've had the same Pentax remote since my K10D (i.e., 2007) and it is still going. I guess one day the battery will die.

I think Kris is referring to the Image Sync Ricoh app. Enables you to remotely trigger from a smartphone, amongst other things like loading images from camera to phone/pad using wifi.
Need to have a wifi equipped camera.

I use an app called "Smart Remote" on my Huawei Android phone. It came pre-installed but there are other apps on the play store. I got it to work with my wife's Nikon too, but she couldn't find a version for iphone.
It doesn't need wifi, just an old fashioned style infrared remote.
