Noticed anything unusual upgrading K-3 firmware?

I just upgraded mine from 1.0 to 1.03, did all the normal stuff (I've upgraded firmware loads of times before), fully charged battery etc etc...

..verified the version it was offering me, clicked Ok on Start.

It did the flashing 'Now loading' thing for about 20 seconds or so, and then I was expecting it to say 'Complete', as described in the doc that comes with it.

So you can imagine my moment of heart failure when the LCD went blank !

I left it for quite a few minutes (several times as long as these upgrades usually take) and then since I obviously didn't want to switch it off and brick it, I touched the shutter button enough to half-press it. And got the little buzz it gives when coming back from sleep.

Emboldened, I pressed MENU, and got the menu. Checked the firmware level, it said 1.03.

So I switched it off, removed the SD card, and switched it on again. It started up fine, and still says 1.03 and appears to be behaving normally.

Anyone seen this?

If it's working and says '1.03' what's the problem Chris?

I seem to recall that mine also just went blank when updated, I've had no problems with it since.

I stopped worrying doing firmware upgrades a long time ago - it's just when it does something different from what the docs say that I have a 'moment'.

Warm fuzzy feeling, all firmwared up
Following the flashing of NOW LOADING the firmware does display COMPLETE on the rear screen, unlike previous models where the COMPLETE remained displayed this model displays for a few seconds and then the screen goes blank.

Not saying there's a problem at all. Really only mentioned it to see if others had seen the same thing. It might help some if they know that it's normal ahead of time

Ah, it's possible I looked away for a moment or two at the crucial moment. Makes sense...

Interesting, thanks for mentioning.

Not on the K-3 (because I don't have one ) but yes, I've had that happen on the K-30. Not sure if it's because I looked away or what, but it freaked me out. Gave it a long minute or so of no activity and then turned off. Started up normally and was upgraded, so maybe I just missed the COMPLETE message.

Basically, from a user perspective, it would be better to keep that COMPLETE message on the screen permanently when finished. I see no real reason for it to disappear afterwards. I could assume it's the screen saver timeout period or something, but basically it should just stay on the screen and it would then never be an issue.

Very much agree.

I think they're just yanking our chains.

Every update I've done (not K3) I get that feeling of dread until completed and camera is found to be working so you have my sympathy.

On the K-30 if you blink at the wrong time you miss it.
