Just reading John Riley's Tamron 70-210mm f4 review on ephotozine. I think we are seeing the yet to come Pentax lens, that is still under development. What do you think?
We will see.

The thought did occur to me that if the new Pentax lens performs as well as the Tamron sample that would be brilliant. I'd buy one without any doubt.
Best regards, John

It certainly looks like a great lens from your review John. Only down side, it will probably cost us Pentax shooter more.

The new Pentax could be based on the Tokina.

It will be interesting anyway, and there's a lot to be said for restricting the maximum aperture and having a more compact lens.

As far as I know it will not be available in PK mount, not with Tamron written on it anyway.

I'd be very surprised if that isn't the upcoming Pentax lens in that range. It'll be Pentax branded with a 20-25% mark-up in the price.

NOT AGAIN!! How many times must it be said the Pentax is NOT a rebranded Tamron. Tamron make some lenses for Pentax under licence but to Pentax’s specifications which explains the similarity of configuration. Read the facts and compare the specifications - lens coatings? WR? Those are why the Pentax cost more not just the badge. And not having SR in the lens will improve image quality as well.

They come out of Tamron's factory in Japan, apparently. Pentax probably helped Tamron with the weather sealing; I would be surprised if the weather sealing on the Pentax and Tamron variants differed. Not sure how lens based SR degrades image quality - you can turn it off. Having it in body is better but that's nothing to do with the lens really.

I use Pentax cameras and lenses for my own photography. I also review lenses of all makes for ePHOTOzine and all makes of camera are provided for that purpose. The new Tamron has been awarded Editor's Choice, and indeed if it becomes available in a Pentax version I will buy it. Users of Canon and Nikon can buy it now if they wish to.

How do you get a 70-200mm out of a 70-210mm????? ..... Cut 5mm off each end

It's the other way round. You stick 10mm on the end; requires an optical adhesive. The Pentax version does away with that so the glue isn't required. Did John miss that requirement out in his review?

Late update, the extra length can be achieved with a variety of filter options, eg UV, ND, polarizer etc. but the combined total extra musn't exceed 10mm.
