New Cactus V5 flash radio triggers announced

Gadget Infinity, the company that brought us the Cactus V4 flash radio triggers will be releasing an improved V5 version.

First reviews start appearing and there is a video on youtube.

Cool features include
* much improved reliability and range (100m)
* channel selectable while trigger is in use
* improved compatibility with Pentax flashes (in cold weather the V4 could have problems with the low trigger voltage of Pentax flashes)
* transceiver design (no more exotic batteries, flexible allocation to transmitter/receiver usage)
* additional usage as a wireless remote camera trigger
* and much more.

No pricing available yet but as a considerably upgraded design they are bound to cost more than the V4. The V4 will not be phased out and the V5 are expected to be released real soon (i.e., before February).

Check out the official overview, feature list, specs, package contents and manual. Really exciting new product, AFAIC.

The problem I have with those is that the Receiver Connection port is 3.5 mm (1/8”) mono mini-phone.
As I use several Metz 45 CT1 and CT4 for off camera flash there is an issue of connecting the Metz to anything like the Cactus as they do not have the PC connector on the receiver.
You can get cheap Chinese one of eBay but they don't last and other then that it is the pocket wizard, but you look at more than £150 each.
Shame really as I could do with a decent one for around this price mark.
But anyway, thanks for letting us know. I may have to look at different flash system in the future.
Kind regards

It's nice to be nice!

Pentax K-5 with D-GB4 Grip, to many lenses to mention by now (serious LBA by now), TC's, Lowepro Slingshot 300 AW, Manfrotto 028 & Redsnapper RS-283 with various Heads plus various Camera Clamps (I collect them). Pentax AF 360FGZ, Pentax AF 240FT, several Metz 45 CT-1 & 5 with stands and 'Blow Up' Soft Boxes, Flash Triggers, and various Macro gear.

I know I have informed you about the APUTURE TRIGMASTER Model - MX1C before, and i take onboard your comments. However, If you read the spec I think they may solve the issue you mention above. I have recently purchased another unit for my wife as they do what they say on the packet, and for the price you can't go wrong in my opinion.

As they say nothing ventured nothing gained.

I can not get an APUTURE TRIGMASTER from a UK supplier. I can get it of eBay but again that from China.
As for the specs, I did read them and it states that the connector on the receiver is "3.5 mm (1/8”) mono mini-phone" but I need a PC connector.
I may get a bit confused with all the small add ons I am getting over the next few month but it seems that either I have to buy from China to be in my cost bracket or I have to save for a pocket wizard as the Aputure Trigmaster is not available from a UK supplier.

Included with the APUTURE TRIGMASTER are two jacks to PC connector. On ebay there is a seller from Poland who provides APUTURE TRIGMASTER, very good service from my dealings with him.

hope this helps

The part of jack to PC is new to me as I thought they only supply a PC to jack connector. As you know the CT45 has a PC cable and that needs to connect and I did not think that was possible as it is nowhere mentioned.
Poland would be fine as it is in the EU and no tax to be paid.
I just 'lost' 5 parcels from china and two I had to pay import tax on hence I try to avoid China for anything above the £10 - £15 mark.
Thanks for that, will have a look for the seller from Poland.

Wow, I definitely want two sets!!!

Any idea if a UK supplier will carry them?

Was about to go for some Securelink T2Ds as they also have a hotshoe design so no need for extra cables/adapters for my Metz flashes.

The Cactus V5 comes with several connection cables. One of them has the PC connector you need.

Price has been published yet. According to the videos on youtube, the triggers should become available in January 2011.

With the v4 version you would buy them direct from Gadget Infinity in Hong Kong. They have an ecommerce website you can order from. They are a reputable outfit. My v4 receiver conked out after 6 months or so, and they were very responsive about a warranty replacement.

Anyone used these very similar triggers? They seem good.
link

The V5 writeup suggested they can handle large voltage differences - does this mean they can fire older flashes like the Metz 45ct?
