Thought these were quite interesting as a phenomenon of nature. The DA*300 was the only lens I had with me, so I wasn't sure how they would come out. Please feel free to comment on pros and cons of close-ups with a long lens!

You seem to have achieved excellent clarity and sharpness. Nothing wrong with long focal lengths for macro shots, sometimes they can be a distinct advantage.

I sometimes use a Mitsuki 230mm for macro. Like your DA, it is very selective of the subject matter and does the same sort of excellent job with it.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
