Darkskies,
I noticed my post was not really answering your question, my intention was to contribute to the original thread's title, calling for picture with primes 30-35 mm.....

So to your question: I have had the 35 2.0 for a short while before finding a very attractively priced (and never used) 31mm. I really liked the lens and the quality was outstanding. But I understood that the DA 35 2.4 shares the same design as the FA 35 2.0, and it is very reasonably priced. Used prices for the FA 35 seem to have increased recently.

Thanks again, Giorgio.

Your post would certainly have helped me if i were looking. The 31 Ltd certainly looks the business. But I've pointed my friend to this thread to have a look and make up his own mind from the posts and the photos.

Cheers,

ds

Choose the FA31 if you have the money and don't mind the bulk. (I do.) Along with the K35 it is best for manual focus.

Choose the FA35 if you don't mind the build and absolutely need f/2.

Choose the DA35 to save money.

Choose the K35 if you don't mind the green button nonsense and don't need AF.

Otherwise, get the DA35 Limited Macro for its jewel-like build and close focus ability. It is distinctly pleasant to use, but don't try manual focusing outside the macro range. Very little play.

In the right hands they will all take great pictures. Pentax makes good lenses. I don't think any will necessarily improve on the K35 if you already have it. But the rendering has changed to a more "modern" look over the years, especially with the DA35 Limited which simply screams micro-contrast.

I took this shot with the DA35 Limited prior to selling it. Got many other keepers, but the FOV of 35mm on APS-C does nothing for me.

At last an FA31 Limited. It's a great lens; fast, heavy as lead & expensive but worth it IMHO.

I am trying to buy an FA35mm at the moment. I must say I find the colours of the DA35 2.4 too garish. Much prefer the more muted tones of the FA. Maybe it's my imagination, but still...

It's the post-processing. There would be very little difference between the lenses as far as colour rendition goes. With a properly exposed RAW file you can get any look you like.

Some with my new toy, no editing. Sticky aperture so it needs a good clean but I think this might just be my new favourite lens. It's a lovely focal length.

SMC K30f2.8 aka the poor man's 31.

After lookibg,at this thread and some.of the excellent shots I have realised that 30-35mm is a gap in my growing arsenal of primes that I may have to remedy......
