Lens porn - new acquisition

I am absolutely delighted with this somewhat unusual 78mm Trioplan now that I have converted the mount to M42. 75mm is about as short as you can go with these and still get them to focus on a DSLR. With this one I managed to get a helicoid between the camera and the shutter assembly and it still went to infinity. At the other ('macro') end the shortest focusing distance is 20inches with the front cell wound IN and with it wound OUT it is just 8inches.




I will take it out tomorrow - It's been throwing it down all day so I am stuck inside.

The camera does more for me

jules Verne paired with the K1, I bet it has decompression valves as well looks great and the photo too.

Looks like the sort of thing that would fit in at Whitby goth weekend, judging by the portraits that some folk put on this forum .

Fabulous the way you use these lenses with today's cameras. Impressive to put it mildly.

I was going to take it out on a walk but the weather has been dire! Consequently, I have been stuck with the garden and its proximity to the kitchen door and a paved path - the lawn is too soggy to walk on..

1. We have a nice double camellia in the garden that is within reach. The flowers are about 4 inches across. f5.6 wasn't enough to get it focused from front to back. I clipped the highlights too - sorry!



2. Trioplan photographs Trioplan. This one is its smaller (75mm) cousin in a Prontor shutter on a Balda Baldax camera from the mid 1930s. It currently has a Kodak Gold colour film in it, hence the period tripod and cable release. Using it is a quite different experience to a modern camera - when did you last get a tape measure out to discover the distance to your subject or use a rangefinder? My Weston Master V gets plenty of use too. The final, quiet anti climactic "click" leaves you wondering if anything really happened. Will the K1s and K3iii s, Canons and the like still be fully operable after almost a century?



3. Tulips taken at around f10 to make sure all of them were included.



So far, I am quite pleased with this one. More distant shots are needed and will it produce soap bubbles? We shall see.
