Lake Mungo National Park

A lake that has been dry for 15,000 years, with the sand dunes on the lee side still active and being blown Eastward at a rate of between 1 and 3 metres per year. The lake bed (about 240 square kilometres) was used as native pasture for a number of sheep stations in the 19th and earlier 20 centuries.

It is also the location where 'Mungo man' was located, who (depending on who one believes), is dated to c. 40,000 years ago (check the zeros...).

Only the K5 with 16-45, and the Kx with 50-135 were on hand, as it was blowing sand the whole time. No changing lenses here!

C&C welcome, as always.

A good example of how it is out there, nicely done.

This is the second time today I've been forced to say nice things about a picture, or group of them.

I am not a great fan of toned monochrome, but I think it works well in this case.

"Looking up Slope" is the best of the bunch, IMO, but they're all good.

These are lovely, the toning works so well. Looking Up is also my favorite, I like the drift out of focus. These shots have a 'classic look' putting me in mind of - dare I mention his name - Ansel Adams.

A fine set. What an interesting place. You convey the atmosphere very effectively. I might have gone for straight high contrast monochrome conversions, but this is a personal thing.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Many thanks all, appreciate your comments.

Diversity is vital for us all Alan! I may try a straight BW version on some of these as well - thank you for your thoughts.
