Anybody used one of these?

http://www.srsmicrosystems.co.uk/348/Kenko-Teleplus-DG-1-4X-MC-Teleconverter---P...

Looking to use with D-FA 100mm macro lens (Samsung version - non-WR) to shoot insects etc...

Tried tubes... Have to get too close... Miss
Without... Hit and miss... Mostly miss...

Members of the other forum swear by the Pentax-F 1.7 AF converter... Is this close?

The fact it is 1.4x is good, as moderate converters have a better chance to be OK optically.

The 1.7x is possibly the desirable one to have, but this one is actually quite tempting at that price.

The beauty is you only lose one stop with a 1.4x

Be aware you lose AF stopped down more than F4.

These were 89 not long ago then vanished. Who owns Kenko now I wonder. I think they were Hoya for a time. Pentax have one on their road map for next year. Bet it's twice the price.

That's the wrong photo and probably wrong description.
The Pentax one is unlikely to have any Gate Array IC
inside. It won't work with SDM. OK with screw drive.

The older Tamron ones work with SDM.

Performance should be quite good. The same TC is sold
under different brands.

Algi, if you think the description is wrong, why not e-mail Chris and let him know?

Well if e new q adaptor is 249 I imagine the k mount teleconvertor is going to be more likely 300ish

"Full AF operation with Teleplus K1.5 is possible with camera
lenses with open aperture of F4 or brighter. "

He already knows that this doesn't apply to SDM lenses
and advises anyone purchasing one and no doubt has also
done a few refunds. Just one of those things that he
hasn't got round to.

I've seen one for a similar price locally... Hoping they stay in stock for a month...

Could you elaborate on what you mean by 'moderate' John... I might be being thick but I'd appreciate it... Do you mean that 1.7 or 2x converters tend to deliver poor image quallity?
Sorry just confused...

I don't have any SDM lenses, but sounds good thank you!

I would call a 3x converter hopeless, a 2x as good if designed well amd the 1.4x or 1.7x as the best bet.

So the 1.4x and 1.7x I would class as moderate. The 2x converters can be OK if the 7 elementy designs, but are probably expensive marque versions if really good.

So a 1.4 is most likely the way to go then...

Cheers John!!
