Keenai or is there a better internet site for uploading raw files?

I've been using Flickr to store my image files on the internet, but given that it does support RAW, I opted to buy into Ricoh's Keenai, paid up £50 for a year's subscription before doing my homework, now I'm starting to find out what I should have checked out first:

No support for any Pentax wireless cameras (K-1, K-3ii and K-S2 in my case) - I have to download to my desktop first then upload to Keenai
Won't upload files over 100mb therefore it can't store Pixelshift and HDR raw files
Limited control over file handling, relative to Flickr

Having said that, it is good for the Theta (although I have yet to test this), although again it is necessary to download to desktop first then upload to Keenai.

I'd be very interested to know if anyone else here uses Keenai, and if so how good is it for you.

If you're not using Keenai, please do let me know which service you use to upload, manage and access your raw files in cyberspace.

One point I should make, is that my objective is to have secure file storage space so that when I'm on the move I have access to my files, I do keep copies on my own hard discs, and backups, but even there I have had some problems with disc failure (am currently upgrading to RAID level 5 to improve on what I have been using).

Any suggestions or advice on photo storage service providers who support raw would be really appreciated.

We were having a similar discussion here there other day: https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/pentax-photo-gallery-58477/p-1

I use Flickr for uploading things I may want to share.

My entire photo library (RAW files) is kept on a drive on my PC and synced to OneDrive, I have 1TB of storage (through work so it's free). OneDrive works quite well but its pretty slow uploading/downloading and in general feels clunky, definitely wouldn't use it if I had to pay for it, it does the job for now though.

My Synology NAS provides RAID protected storage and offers direct access to all my files via either my home network or anywhere in the world via the internet, using any device. My connected TVs allow me to browse all my photos, videos, etc.

I can record TV using a supported dongle, store any type of file, plus a 100 and 1 other things.

If you look at their products, the Play versions have enhanced processors for replay of videos, TV content, ripped DVDs, etc.

I've recently started to use Amazon Drive not to be confused with Amazon Photo storage.

You can try Amazon Drive free for three months and then it's £55 per year. It's unlimited file storage so anything can be stored on it. Uploading is faster than One Drive, Google Drive and Sropbox and is compatible with Synology Cloud services.

When I'm on the road I save my raws on my MacBook in the Amazon folder which then uploads to Amazon Drive when connected to the internet. Then when I get home the RAW files are already waiting in my synology NAS.

Thank you people, for all the useful information. Still hoping someone can give me feedback on their experience of Keenai, but it certainly is helpful to hear about how others work with storage and retrieving RAW on the internet/cloud or whatever it's called.

Paul, thanks for the link to the discussion on websites, all very interesting. I would be interested to know if One Drive enables you to view images, or is it more like a file storage directory storage?

John, Synology NAS RAID storage does sound interesting, thanks for this information. I have already invested in gear for RAID storage in my PC and will be controlling it by software so it's good to know that you are happy with it. Keenai does offer the advantage of access across multiple platforms but it does sound like Synology NAS goes a step further so I'll look into it.

Gary, thanks for the Amazon drive tip, it sounds like a good setup. Again the question is are the RAW files viewable to browse through or does it just display file names and icons?

Sorry if my questions are dumb, remote RAW file storage is all new to me.

Hi,

Just a comment on Keenai as I work in the group. The 100MB limit is only for the webapp uploads, all the other apps (desktop and mobile) support large files given we support both photos and videos. Regarding wireless camera transfers; Android currently supports both K-1, K-70, GRII, and Ricoh Theta S support with the other platforms is coming in the near future.

A simple solution would be instead of uploading with the webapp, install the desktop software then add a watched folder where your raw files are and let it upload them.

Cheers

The raw files are viewable in the app and on the website.

Well, I hope I am the only member here who has subscribed to Keenai. Ricoh are ditching it!

I spent very many hours uploading all my raw files to Keenai, and found out through the US Pentax forum that it is being shut down.

I received not notification email from Keenai despite their stated undertaking to send this to all users on Sept 04. This email is supposed to provide a form for reimbursement - I paid for the service up to October 2019, so they owe me a pretty penny.

Although the service did have advantages, it was clunky and did not support either pixel shift or HDR uploades because there was a 100MB file size restriction. It was not marketed, so user uptake was low. I would have been wiser if I had used something like Amazon Drive as suggested by Cabstar. I am now uploading to my Dropbox account at least as a short term measure.

It doesn't bode well for us when Ricoh acquires a going concern, fails to adequately invest in it, does not market or promote it, and then dumps it, leaving users high and dry. The lack of communication on a refund is frustrating to say the least.

Anyone else here used Keenai?
