K5 makes a sound that does not sound good
What is the shutter count? That should give some indication of whether it is new or not. It won't be zero but should be low.
Where did you buy the camera?
I can't say I have ever noticed the shake reduction making a noise but others have.

All 3 K-5's I have had showed zero on the shutter count.

My second one didn't as SRS checked it for staining before sending it off. I never bothered to check the first. The K20D and Ds didn't have zero either.
I have never shaken my camera either so I have no idea if it makes a noise or not.

It is not that I have to shake it - twisting from landscape to portrait is enough to trigger this sliding noise and feel inside the body close to the battery grip

This question comes up so often on all Pentax related forums.
My Panasonic SD700 HD camcorder does a similar thing. I knew immediately what it was having bought a K7 a couple years before.
Like Mike mine didn't have protective film either.

Like Mike all three K-5s I have owned had a zero shutter count when I first received them

Hi - just got my K5 - opened it - and was surproised (negatively) - the body makes a sound like something heavy is moving around near the battery grip. First I thought, it is the shake reduction device but it sounds like something really heavy and big is moving around. Is this normal - annd if so - did you get used to it - for me it sounds like the camera is breaking apart soon?
Also surprising - there was no display protection foil on it so i wonder if this camera is really or new or one, which was already been sent back?
Any infos highly appreciated

Axel
It's the sensor assembly that is moving around. The sensor assembly in the K-5 is floating and is held in place by electro magnets when shooting, or when the Shake reduction is enabled the electromagnets shit the sensor around to compensate for camera shake.
I agree with sledger that a 'noticeable notice' should be included in the box when you buy one.

"Shake Reduction (SR)
Shake Reduction (SR) on the K-5 features a PENTAX original system which uses magnetic force to move the image sensor at high speeds, compensating for camera shake.
The camera may generate some operating noise when it is shaken, such as when changing the composition of a picture. This is normal and not a malfunction."
If all else fails, read the instructions!

Sorry that I asked the question as this was obviously asked many times before - I simply was a bit in "panic mode" when I unpacked the camera so I created a new thread immediately instead of searching. I love the idea with the yellow sticker in the box - they should really do this - handbook page 17 (or in my case - page 154) is not where I want to search for a info that stops me thing, I have a damaged camera (better place might be the troubleshooting chapter or the unpacking section.
I also hope that I have not sensitised those of you, that have not heard the sound until now and you now hear them every time and get nervous as well

OK - and now I start to enjoy the K5
