K10D newbie question on storage cards.
You don't need the ultimate in performance for use with the K10, so I'd look at the 16Gb cards from Sandisk, and' 'Class 6' ... Those should give a very high price to performance ratio.
Pentax K7 with BG-4 Grip / Samyang 14mm f2.8 ED AS IF UMC / DA18-55mm f3.5-5.6 AL WR / SMC A28mm f2.8 / D FA 28-105mm / SMC F35-70 f3.5-4.5 / SMC A50mm f1.7 / Tamron AF70-300mm f4-5.6 Di LD macro / SMC M75-150mm f4.0 / Tamron Adaptall (CT-135) 135mm f2.8 / Asahi Takumar-A 2X tele-converter / Pentax AF-540FGZ (I & II) Flashes / Cactus RF60/X Flashes & V6/V6II Transceiver
Nevertheless, it still might be an idea to get the fastest (at least Class 10 if you can) cards you can in case you get to use a more modern body in the future - there is definite difference in how fast the files are saved as compared with the earliest cards (can't now help with the K10D as I sold my Samsung GX-10 - a KD-10 clone - quite a few years ago).
BTW the latest firmware updates are here http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.uk/en/Photo-Downloads.html#MediaTypeID4 and the last K10 version appears to have been k10e130w.EXe
7Dayshop have Lexar premium class 10 8g for £7.39 each at the moment. link You could use a micro sd, with a SD adapter. This can work cheaper as they sell more micros. link
I'm sure there will be some who disagree but I have always looked at the stated speeds rather than the brand name when I buy SD cards and I have not been disappointed. I have had occasional problems, both with big brands and cheaper brands but on the whole I think I have saved myself lots of money by buying cheaper brands.
I do think it is worth buying from regular suppliers though, usually 7dayshop. They are easy to deal with and do sell cheaper brands but I trust them not to flog me counterfeit stuff, like some far east suppliers might!
Also, I'm dubious about using micro SDHC cards because of the additional contact interface in the adapter and I've had several such failures, especially with Kingston branded products. BTW: ebay is notorious for some sellers supplying fake Kingston products, and, in fact, I won't buy any more cards of that brand from anywhere!

Stuart..
That's about the right current price for that card, and I have some 32GB versions (as well as some slightly slower, but still Class 10, 16GB versions) - but, at 16GB, it might be too big for the OP's K10D to recognise even after a f/w upgrade (not sure what the limit would be).

It's my understanding that the K10D after installing the latest firmware. Can take upto 16Gb SDHC cards. If you upgrade to these cards you will also need a SDHC card reader. If you take the card out to transfer your images.. (These are now very common. In fact, it will be hard to find one that isnt SDHC compatible.)
That sounds the right advice - but the OP should get a USB 3, rather than a USB 2, card reader because the former cost around £4, and that's only a few pence more than the latter - no faster in a USB 2 port but faster and more "future proof" if his PC has a USB 3 port.

Metal case.
Looks to be from the 7-Day Shop.

Are there any issues possible when upgrading firmware?
I wouldn't want to cattle-truck it just before my holiday!

- carefully read the instructions on the f/w download page, especially the sequence of events and the info on when the process can be considered to be complete
- Use an SD card formatted in the camera, and not in a PC
- make sure the battery is fully charged
- don't be tempted to "fiddle" with the camera during the upgrade process - just try to be patient and wait.

Please can someone recommend a storage card that is a good computerise between cost and performance?
Many thanks
Nick
