Hi Paul, for your budget I would recommend the newest K-5IIs you can find. There have been some (and probably still are some) for sale on this Forum at or just above the £500 mark.

Hello Paul, good advice from David and also consider the K5 II. If your not needing to sell the K10D to help the funding, keep it.

Paul. There is an ongoing 'debate' about the IQ difference between the K5ii and K5iis. My advice would be to go for whichever one you can get for your budget at the time you want to buy. You will only see any difference if you compared identical output images side by side.
In the real world either camera would suit your needs.
I have just bought Brian's grip but he may still have his K5iis for sale:

I have seen a few K7s for sale on the internet via different camera retailers is that a good camera to purchase (i.e a good upgrade from the K10)? Or should I steer clear of that particular model?
Regarding my K10D I am in no need to sell that to help fund a new camera Body (well not at the present moment). I do have some Lenses I don't use much which I might advertise on here sometime in the new year, just to clear out my Camera bag.

K5iis has the filter in front of the sensor removed that's the only difference between k5ii, now I had K7 first and thought is this
the best a Dslr can do!!! within two months the k-5 came out what an improvement that was over the K7!!!!
But still Not Totally Happy with quality,
even though I had also purchased, Pentax 17-70 f4, Pentax 60-250 f4,
Pentax 100mm macro Wr, Sigma 100-300mm f4, Pentax 300mm f4, Pentax 15mm f4, until the k5iis came out, the k5iis is the best camera I have used.... Really happy with this model cannot say if the k5ii would be as good for me as I haven't used that one ..
But I am happy with the K5iis .....

By all means acquire a K5 or one of its variants, but I urge you not to get rid of your K10.
I have both cameras and, while I have neither the experience nor the ability of most forum members, I much prefer the handling of the K10 and the low ISO pictures from its ancient CCD sensor.
Of course, you may feel differently, as indeed do most photographers but, if you can afford it, hang on to both for a while at least.

The k7 was a significant upgrade option for owners of the older cameras when it came out in spring 2009. It moved things forward technologically with the sensor and the prime image processor and improved burst rates and low light autofocussing with its af assist beam. It offered an increase to 14.5MP at 12 bit.
But more significantly it introduced the new body shape and key image capture controls that have remained unchanged through the later k5 models - aspects of design that are so loved by so many 'Pentaxians'. The only real addition to operation and control brought by the k5 that I am aware of is some extra 'user' modes - otherwise it functions identically.
I am a big k7 advocate of course, so I must say that it still remains a significant upgrade choice to a k10 owner - it's the same camera that it was in 2009. But I'm also realistic .... Time and sensor technology keipt moving on and we now have all the amazing features of the k7 plus the big jump in sensor performance offered by the k5 varients. Lucky us! So now the k7 becomes the best ultra bargain option if that's the financial limit, and what an amazing bargain. But the k5 is probably an even better bargain for the money now due to that extra performance. The k511 versions are not old enough yet to have achieved such bargain status.

But you can pick them up for £500-ish which is Paul's budget.
IMHO if you can afford it go for the most up to date camera you can get. It is possible that, eventually, support and firmware updates will not be available for older models. The newer you can buy the more 'future proof' it will be. If you budget is limited then look at the K30/50. These can be picked up new and will, probably, still be an upgrade to the K10D.

I currently have a Pentax K10D which I have had for about 5 years now. I am thinking of upgrading to a more modern camera. I am looking to buy New or second hand and will be paying around £500+ for a new camera body.
I am mainly into Landscape and nature photography can you advise which would be the best Camera body to go for?
