Yeah it's slowly taking off as it has no fees.
No guarantees or easy way to leave/check feedback either...

Yeah it's in the specific Pentax sales group - there are at least two more K-1's for similar prices at the moment.

One of the good things about Pentax on Facebook is the small community the majority of sellers are often also active in the many Pentax groups so you sort of have an idea what sort of person they are etc.

This seems a very secretive/dark thread

It seems to have plenty 'friends' associated with it, more than a 'small community'. You administer the site with care John; do you know how many people have signed up for it?

I think of FB as a necessary evil, and am using it far less than in bygone times. Despite its assurances I am reluctant to use Ebay. Gumtree is a good hiding place for scoundrels, got my fingers burned there!

So, my first preference by far is to purchase from PentaxUsers here. Thoroughly decent people!

For me, it's complicated. I have a lot of trust in the regular sellers on here and would be very happy to conduct transactions with most users. The only concern is when the seller post history isn't very deep and they have a shiny item. Selling is usually pretty cool since there isn't the massive risk of a buyer trying to scam people on here.

On a contrasting note, I really like the security of buying on eBay, and selling is often a bit nervewracking knowing that a buyer can always turn around and say they haven't received the item as described (or just send back a broken lens/camera while keeping your good one).

And I've also been stung on Gumtree. I was a very costly lesson to learn.

Currently the group has about 2,500 members ish.

Obviously I just admin it and I'm not involved in the sales but touch wood not had a single bad sale that's been mentioned so far. What I do like about FB is you can click through and look at someones personal profile, see if they are actually in to photography, look like a genuine person etc. BUT as always buyer beware.

People have faith in the things they like I know many on here feel they know the sellers on here but I've seen things go wrong here too.

P.S. Many people simply use the group to promote their sale listing elsewhere and that is fine with the admins.....so we will get a lot of links back to forums like this one or ebay listings etc.

Good to know it seems to have been trouble free John, and that 'Pentax Ricoh Photography Buy & Sell' now has a substantial group of followers. You do a lot to promote sales of Pentax, both corporate and personal. Good point about being able to see someone's profile when considering a purchase.

I do avoid first time posters on PU and take note on the very rare instances where there are disputes.

So my problem with FB is how the company conducts itself. There are issues of trust, accountability, etc which have been well documented in media. It's a personal decision for me and probably not appropriate to discuss further on this forum.

I like the not for profit ethos of PentaxUser, it's a friendly and supportive community that fosters trust and promotes my preferred choice of camera system.

Can't argue with your wider points on Facebook.

The group has swelled since the admin team changed to all 'active pentaxians' who are in all the other Facebook groups and communities I think (may be wrong) the actual group founder only started it because he was selling up and then just left appointing another member admin in the same situation and it continued until Roberto Duran logged on one day and found he'd been made an admin and the person that appointed him had left so he sought out a couple of other committed Pentaxians to help out - we've gone from 650 member at the start of this year to 2,500+ now and the group had been going for two years before that so we are quite pleased with the growth.

Pentaxians generally are quite polite so it's a fairly easy group to police - other than the scandal I created because I used to share 'spotted bargains' and certain members felt I was just helping the lazy at their cost
