There is a regular stream of K1s on Ebay too - people can't get rid of them fast enough, or at least it appears so by comparison with the number of K5s and K3s that you don't see. I was initially tempted but seeing so many I began to wonder why?

The K-1 was a first gen of a whole new line (well of sensor size anyway).
There were some obvious areas of potential improvement (burst speed/buffer size for example), so it wouldn't surprise me if people were looking to offload prior to a new model (lots of rumours of this at the moment).
I personally don't know of anyone who has been disappointed with theirs.

No it won't. I'm unlikely to buy another Pentax body now.

Just taken a look, there is just one pre-owned UK listing and the rest are new grey imports or ‘pre-owned’ from Japan priced in US dollars. How many have we seen on this forum? Considering the thousands that have been sold that would indicate that unless traded for a different brand nearly all have kept theirs.

Are Ricoh being clever here? I didn't want a FF, but didn't like any of the APS-C cameras as a replacement for my K-5 ..... I eventually gave in and bought a K-1. Not really happy, but it's the only path that was available. I still don't think I need FF
So we may not see a K-3ii replacement, but then again Ricoh have a strange way of working so we might! They may move into exercise videos....... Lifting a FF camera + big lens above your head for 5 mins a day keeps you fully fit

I was wondering that too.
I love my K-1. And I have a K3 and K5 too, so can compare. But i don't use it for everything.
I'd consider a 2nd gen, depending on what has been improved.
This space deliberately left blank.

I love my K1 too but as my main interest is small birds in flight I stick with my K3 II (and K3) for that, (But with very limited success) and use the K1 for everything else, where it never fails to impress..
Whilst a large / medium bird in flight is do-able with the later Pentax DSLRs, in my experience it is mostly beyond any Pentax set up to achieve high success rates on small birds in flight.
If an upgrade came with a better buffer and better AF then I will try it but I am close getting to a Nikon set up with the 400 2.8 for small Birds.
A Pentax man for 50 yrs it pains me to say there is nothing available that can live with a D500 and the Nikon 400 2.8 from any manufacturer let alone Pentax.
When you consider the price of the D500 it is marvelous, particularly when mounted on the the 400 2.8 when shooting BIF.
However whilst the camera is very reasonable the lens is horrendously expensive in both the latest version and it's predecessor, so I am daily scouring the dealers for a good used lens.
In recent months I almost got one but realize there is quite a number of birders also looking for the same lens and they get snapped up almost immediately when they become available despite a decent used version of even the previous model to the latest, having a hefty four figure price tag
As regards the next Pentax FF, I am hoping Pentax will make a leap on both Buffer capability and AF with the any new FF. but it might be a stretch too far moving from the current "pro-spec" offers to a camera that match the Nikons, in one model step .

Hardly a fair post on a Pentax site comparing their lenses to a Nikon 400mm f/2.8 that is only affordable if you buy SECOND-HAND!!!

Hopefully means that the upgraded model is waiting in the wings...either that or the upgrade was in fact the KP.
