K-3 ll FILE NAMING

Posted 26/07/2020 - 07:47 Link
Hi, I noticed recently that my file names have changed on my pictures out of my K3ll camera. I have my colour space set to sRGB and the file names to K3ll----. This is to differentiate pictures between cameras. (I have not yet gone above 10000 pictures, by the way). This has worked fine for a year or two now. However recently I noticed the file names are showing in the following format _K3l----. According to the camera this second format is for when the colour space AdobeRGB is selected. The FILE NAME screen within the menu (spanner - 2 - file name) shows the following:
sRGB K3ll ****.JPG
AdobeRGB _K3l ****.JPG

K3ll ****.MOV

The first two lines are highlighted together and it looks as though you cannot change them individually.
Question is folks, how do I get back to my required format of K3ll ****? And what could have changed it in the first place?
Regards
Andrew

Has your colour space been changed to AdobeRGB? If so, change it back to sRGB.

A reset could also solve the problem, as might updating to the latest firmware.
Best regards, John

Hi John. I am set to sRGB and I believe I have the latest firmware, 1.10. I had thought of doing a reset but thought I would check with you guys first.

That is correct. You may edit the 4 characters as you have done so yours reads K3II. The edit applies to both colour spaces, you cannot change individually.

Sounds to me you have changed the colour space to AdobeRGB. The camera will then use the prefix "_" followed by the first three characters. Which is what you are seeing. Change the colour space back to sRGB and you will be back to normal

Hi, the colour space is set to sRGB but still it gives the file name of _K3l ****

You could try resetting the image number to 0000 if there is a menu item for that otherwise do a factory reset

Hi, looks like I am needing to reset the camera. Something has gone awry. Will let you know later if it resolves the issue.
Thanks all.

Hi, a reset has sorted my issue with the file name. Something had gone out of kilter.
Thanks for your assistance.

Do you use USER modes ?

Hi, I have never used these - yet. As I understand it you save settings for, say landscape. on 1 with the idea being that when you venture out onto the hills, select 1 and all is ready. I presume though that you may still need to tweak the settings dependant on the weather conditions, bright-sunny or overcast, for example. I got this far then thought what's the point of these pre-sets if you are still going to adjust them on the day. I do wonder if my logic is flawed regarding this, mind you. After all bigger brains than mine have put this facility onto what is a prosumer camera. I will have to take a closer look.

User modes are useful if you might need to change a number of settings quickly or you occasionally use a set of settings that you might not remember. For example, I've got one of my user modes set up for birds in flight. So if I'm looking for butterflies in bushes but see a lesser spotted wibbly bird taking to the wing, it's quick and easy to change to reasonable settings before the bird disappears.

Hi, I have never used these - yet.

First, the reason I asked is that there are a number of camera settings (Autofocus points; drive mode; Autofocus modes plus many more) which will be retained in that USER mode when saved. Colour space for jpeg output is one of these. So although it does not seem to be the case for you, it is worth pointing out for all that if at any time one saves a change in colour space (AdobeRGB) while in a USER mode, changing the setting back to sRGB while using the camera in Av mode for example, has no effect on that USER mode. Anytime you use that USER mode again you will be producing AdobeRGB output.

Re USER modes Steve has given a good example. I have something similar. I have two USER modes set for photographing moving beasts whether they be my dogs or wildlife.

Both are set for TAv mode and continuous shooting Medium burst. One is set up with AF-C and Expanded Area AF points (tracking). The other is set up with AF-S and single select AF point. So for example I will use the first when following a moving subject. But when it stops I can quickly switch to the second mode and use the focus and recompose method to get my shot without having to fumble with adjusting AF mode.
