K-3 iii Astrotracer vs K-3 ii or KP or similar with O-GPS2 - which is better

Posted 20/08/2024 - 16:20 Link
I have a bit of a quandary - wondering whether to buy a K3iii with built in Astrotracer, or will I get greater flexibility, and as good a camera by going 2nd hand with an older camera which is O-GPs2 compatible? I've read a lot of stuff about the Astortracer built into the K3iii and as a complete (but expensive) package, it seems a bit clunky when considering processor time etc and issues with the test framing in poor light/strong foreground horizon.
Will I get more (Big) Bang for my bucks (£) by getting an older model 2nd hand and adding a new O-GPS2 which in theory is using different technology to "track"?
Which is a more accurate tracking system? The GPS unit with Astro or the K3iii system?
I couldn't find any threads on any forum about this particular question - buckets of stuff about Astrotracer itself.
Thank you!

If you are wanting to do some wide field astrophotography. Then spend the extra cash (about 20 to 30 quid more), and get an iOptron SkyTracker Pro. It is far more capable than the O-GPS2.

There is an astrotracer standalone unit on Ebay right now. (No idea if it's good value or not).
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
