K-3 (III) just arrived so first thing was to check the body over, take a picture to check the shutter count and then update the firmware ... this one is on 1.01

11 Firmware updates in 12 months ... I have had every top end DSLR Pentax have made and I don't think I have had that many in total for all the cameras.

Bit suprised there is no charger and my back screen seems to be faulty because it doesn't move !!

No folding screen? Why has no-one mentioned that before? Has anyone written to Ricoh?

I presumed it was because it came from Amazon warehouse.

To be fair it was advertised as Used - acceptable ... damaged box, small marks on top and rear screen.

Box is certainly damaged (held together with cellophane), the USB lead is missing but there isn't a mark on it and when I took a picture to check the shutter count the file read 00001 and I put it through the usual web page and it read 0 so it hasn't been used.

I am still getting used to my K3iii but the images from the 35 and 70 Limited lenses and the 16-85 are definitely a step up from the K70. The latest update adds a built in Astrotracer function, however I've not got around to trying it out yet.

Took the camera out this morning, pictures not worth starting a thread for as it was dark and grey but it works well and it's nice to get some use out of the DA* 16-50mm again.

From my very limited use I still don't think that the tracking is anywhere as good as the Nikon D500/Canon 7D MKII and it's light years away from the mirorless cameras but I was expecting that anyway which is why I took so long buying the camera. As usual though, Pentax (Ricoh) have made a camera that is a pleasure to use.

There are 101 options to set to get the best out of the AF. There is a long thread discussing the options on the US site. I've not gone into them as I've mainly been using manual glass.

It does birds it does planes, it even does Shinkansen trains.

You pick some AF points stick em on the subject and it nails it.
Can you blindly wave it at the subject and it hits it, no!
Does it have Mosquito eyelash focus mode, no!
Does it have a billion AF points with coal cellar eV boost, no!
Does it need them, in my opinion no!
YMMV but you'd be wrong

Jules, I did say in my VERY LIMITED EXPERIENCE and notice I said nothing about AF aquiring the subject which has never been a problem for Pentax but the tracking has.

However you may want to take that link down after what I saw when I clicked on it .... I'm no prude but if a child looks at it there may be a few complaints about the surrounding adverts. Not sure I want to watch Alina's videos from Bristol or play the sexiest game of 2022, I may have a heart attack before I finish either.

There's only one thing worse than an ex smoker and that's a born again Pentaxian (for the 3/4/5th time)

Born once was enough no wish to come back.
Never smoked, the link I provided was for a guy photographing shinkansen at 200mph if it's wrong I'm sorry but anyway it works, the camera just works I love it. I've no idea how to take down the links my degree in computer science does not stretch to Pentax user.
No shouting please!
Cheers Jules...

I tried the link but had no luck with the ads you mentioned, but I guess that’s because YouTube tailors their ads to your preferences!

It doesn't go straight to youtube, it goes to something called Kzbin

Edit: If I then click on the youtube link on the video it goes to Youtube and is fine ... weird.

I've removed the contentious link just in case, if it needs to go back in some revised form then by all means try again!

Take this one away John if it's a dud? When I watched the Vid on the original link, I got no weird ads or anything.
Well if it wern't for strange things there'd be nowt interesting in life!
PS. Mine must be faulty too, the rear screen moves to any angle but for some reason the rest of the body moves with it, no matter what I do!

The Amazon Warehouse option doesn't look to give much information on the product. Doesn't include shot count for example, so quite hard to know exactly what you are buying there.
