During the 2018 superbloom they were so thick on the hillsides, motorists were parking along the interstate highway to get out and photograph them, which is not permitted except for emergencies. "No Parking" signs have been put up even on surface roads in the area to discourage traffic hazards.

This year they're back, but not in the profusion of last time. I found a backroad to get in amongst these.

Love them, I have the poppies all over my garden.

Their appearance is not a regular, annual event, here, and seems to be dependent on the somewhat unpredictable rainfall patterns we have.
