So the few 'extra pennies' won't be felt ! some of us are less lucky, so the K7 may be a better buy

I might be missing something here and don't want to detract from what this topic is about, but where did I mention the lenses in this??

I was just adding what my thoughts are between the two and I think the K-5 is better in IQ than the K-7.

I have both the K7 and the K5 and whilst I love my K7 the K5 is miles and miles and miles and miles ... ahead.

Of course if you use flash exclusively then the hugely extended DR of the K5 over the K7 maybe won't be of any interest to you. And of course if you don't shoot sports / birds then the superior AF & higher FPS will be of no value.

If you shoot exclusively in a studio at ISO100 - 400 or in very good daylight then the incredible low noise of the K5 is just not worth having so then again there is no point in upgrading.

Sigh ...

Obviously the K-5 is better than the K-7 ... whether its worth double the price to most people is debatable at best, only they can answer that question.

Is the K-7 capable of taking great pictures .. yes it is.

I miss my k7 Mike, and may choose to add one to my kit again shortly...
Do you find the K5/7 interchangable enough day to day (I know you haven't had the K7 long)Sensor wise I mean::arrow:

thanks very much mike thats what i mean no real point really is there

Well I would say there's a huge point. the K-5 beats the K-7 at EVERY ISO. it has much more dynamic range.

My 2 body set up was a K20D and K10D. when the K-7 came out I had absolutely no interest in it as IQ wise there was not increase in quality. The arrival of the K-5 however changed all that. I bought TWO K-5s.

Fantastic camera

Just a minor thing... From initial tests the infrared filter on the K-5 is stronger than the K-7. So not really practical for IR photography.

But the DR increase is increeeeeedible

Now only the focussing under thungsten...

Somehow i want to wait for the camera that will replace the K5 since now you see that the processor is slowing the camera down quite a bit... Hopefully they will also update the processor in the 645D since that one is even slower but that isn't a surprise.

You didn't ! Your PPG link did DA*16-50, DA*300, DA*60-250 !! enough said !?

If I had that money then a K-5 would be mandatory, maybe 2 !?

But back to reality some of us have to balance the pennies, as u put it, and that's what we were discussing

Unless you get a rogue camera ( which I had ) that has largely been gixed with FW1.03

It would be nice to have the buffer cleared much faster, but other than that I have no complaints.

I think the AF could be improved some more, but most of all I want better and better high ISO performance. I'm not a sunny only shooter. There's plenty of times I want noise free, high dynamic range ISO51200

Give it a few years and it'll come.

RobE17 is part of reality.

I have to balance the pennies. I've had to endure a massive amount of Ebay selling to fund my camera gear.
