introducing myself and my first question to all of you!

my name is mariana i am 28 years old and live in uruguay! (you must travel and visit us we have wonderfull beaches!) please if you find spelling mistakes or maybe not the exact word or expression forgive me!! i am not an english native speaker!

i really enjoy having found this site!

i always liked taking pics, in university i enjoyed having photo lessons and after that i decided to go for my self.. doing some courses etc.. so here i am
hope to get in touch with you , and get to know each other well...
tell me from where are you, what do you do?, etc... anything you feel like sharing!

HERE GOES MY FIRST QUESTION!!!

i have been using a MZ 50 for some time now... some years ago... but would like to change to a more professional camera.. what would you recommend me??

Hello Mariana, welcome to the site.

If you are looking for better manual control of your camera, then perhaps you could consider the Pentax MZ5n or MZ3 bodies - I do not think there is any need to spend more money than this.

If you are looking to explore your photography in new ways, then perhaps it would be worth thinking about buying new lenses. Such as a wider angled one, if you are interested in landscape or architecture. Or a longer telephoto if you like sports. Or perhaps a macro lens if you want to get closer.

I think that before you make a new purchase it is perhaps worth thinking about what sort of pictures you want to take and then buying what is appropriate.

My name is mark i'm from australia [we to have great beaches] i agree

with John, if your camera is working fine spend your money ona new lens

or two, but don't uderestimate yourself as a photographer, some

of the most memorable 35mm photos were taken with a 50mm lens.

I regularly try to leave the wide angles telephotos and zooms at home

and walk out the door with just a standard lens fitted to a fully manual

camera body, its good to just get back to basics somtimes.

Having said that there's nothing like new equipment to give you a kick-

start if your feeling uninspired, whatever you do, enjoy.

I think you would find the Pentax MZ5n a worthwhile upgrade from the MZ50.
The MZ5n has reliable 6 segment metering, Depth of Field preview, Auto Bracketing, Appeture Priority, Shutter Priority, Program and Manual.
It is very simple to use and has an old style Shutter Speed dial.

If you prefer Icon Modes, like you have on the MZ50 then have a look at the excellent MZ6. This is a very under-rated camera in magazine reviews.

The new *ist is very well rated by British Photographic Magazines.

My personal choice the MZ5n but I think they have recently been discontinued. However in the UK some dealers are still advertising them.

maybe i should think in buying a pair of lenses first and see how i work!

i love taking portraits and also doing outdoor photography.. so maybe a macro and a tele should be ok...
the lens i mostly use is a 35 - 80 mm.. i have a70-200mm but it is from an older pentax that was stolen... it works in my camera but in a manual way...
